People love to see things have the piss taken out of them, Yahtzee is entertainment not serious game reviews
He does bring up real issues with most of the games, but most of the time they're over-hyped for entertainment factor, and don't really destroy the game as much as it might be implied

And yeh rly, if you only bought games he liked, you'd have like 4 games

I am kicking around the idea of Saints Row 2, and also checked out Psychonauts. It was creative but not as good as he made it out to be.
Mainly because he praised it for its design, not often mentioning the gameplay.

No but I will occasionally see a movie based on the advice of MovieBob.
Is your avatar a sprite sheet? :)

Odd you should ask now; I never had before, but on the advice given in the most recent XP, I picked up Cave Story, and have been absolutely blown away by it.

Play Cave Story!

Yahtzee and I have COMPLETELY different tastes in games. What he likes, I tend to avoid, what he avoids I tend to like. I give no credence at all to his opinions. If I got a chance to talk to him I wouldn't preach on about the virtues of trading sims and RTS games and all the other stuff I like---I'd commend him on his writing style and his insights into good game design and keep the conversation in areas where he and I would have common ground to talk about. Y'know, like normal, intelligent people, not fanboys or people who need game reviewers to tell them what to like.

I bought Saints Row 2 because of his review (a mistake as it is a absolutely awful port) and I think I bought Just Cause 2 because he made me aware of it. I actually do use Zero Punctuation to steer my purchases, but I don't use ZP alone. I just wish I had listened to him about Bioshock.

there is a joker laugh in it that is really cool at first
and then EVERY enemy does it and it just pisses me off

Technically no, I haven't gotten a game based on his advice, because his advice is for people to stop being twats and giving all their money to Nintendo for their 25th Mario game. But I have purchased Too Human on his review because he was complaining about the melee combat being with the right joystick which I wanted to check out, and surprisingly I enjoyed that game. Not the best rpg but being able to fling yourself across a room towards an enemy with just a flick of the joystick is rather entertaining.

Another for Saints Row 2. It was also on sale on Steam the day I watched his review, so, y'know...

Interesting that most people say Saints Row 2. I think it comes down to the fact that he said you can just dick around how you like in the game without being bothered by the story. And that's why I'm inclined to get it (although I still haven't yet), because I never follow the story in GTA games, I just run around kicking people, stealing cars and killing cops.

silent hill 2
i hated it
you can downgrade the controls to fit the game but there is a limit
contrtol were so bad they made me hate the game by themselves
add to that the fact that nothing happened while i played it and i cant fathom why people can get through that game

also theif 2 but i cant have an opinion on that considering the game crashes every time i try to play it

maybe shadow of the colossus will fare better im trying to find that one

In total, I think he had an approval rating of 4 games. He is not a reviewer, he's a critic. He ripped apart Borderlands, and I still like it and so do a few friends from college.
I facepalmed at that.

OT: I haven't and probably won't ever. He's funny and I respect his views, but as many have said before me, he's a comedy writer before a critic. However, he seems to be be more accurate about most games than actual critics, so I generally go by gut instinct or buy word of mouth.

I love Yahtzees videos, and always get 4-6 minutes of laughs out of them but when it comes to taking advice from him or anyone, I basically don't. I never listen to professional reviewers or critics because a lot of times they are playing games just because they have to and they tend to get burnt out on them and are overly critical, I'd much rather listen to the opinions of people who have actually paid for the game and that play them for fun, it seems to work better for me since they are usually more honest than a reviewer going for laughs or having to meet a time limit.

So I wasn't the only one perplexed by that statement.

Anyway, I've not bought any games solely because of his opinion, but they did possess influence.

For example, I was always at least somewhat curious of No More Heroes and the fantastic reception it received from critics. I thought to myself, even Yahtzee loves it. I'll give it a go.

It was shit.

However, I also picked up Saints Row 2 yesterday (just played it for the first time a few hours ago) and it ended up being pretty damned fun. Until a horrible game-raping glitch ended my play time, which seems to stem from scratches on the disc. Damn used games.
