okay, so this may have been Call of Duty or Halo, any game in either series, haha, so bear with me, because the story has a point even though it's ambigious in details.
I remember playing a game once, (now i'm kinda sure it was a COD) and got a checkpoint right before something killed me, (perhaps a grenade). Time and time again, maybe 10 loads in a row, i died nearly instantly, i tried everything i could. But then something ACTUALLY good happened, the game reverted me the checkpoint RIGHT BEFORE that one. and while i lost a few minutes of gameplay, it was not nearly as bad as restarting the level.
that was intelligent, responsible gameplay programming, exhibiting much forethought. and that experience for whatever reason has always stuck with me.
