gay gamer?

This topic came up when I told my gay friend yesterday that I joined this forum.
None of my friends that are gay and of the same generations as myself are gamers, not even causal ones. They of course of the majority went through their Mario phase and some Sonic as children, as did we all.

I'm sure they exist in the huge world of mmorg or fpser's or rpgers any genre.

So if anyone is gay or has a gay friend speak up cause your seriously underrepresented in my gaming community.

I don't know any personally, but I'm pretty sure a guy who works at my local gamestore is gay.

He always looks at me that way, y'know.

Also, he's a very cool guy, who just dresses to sharp to be straight, and is better than me at CoD:MW2...

My friend Gay Mike (I know something like 50,000 Mikes, so...) is a big-time gamer. In fact (shock of all shocks!) he's just like every other cool guy I know except he happens to have sex with dudes. Imagine that!

I only bring this topic up because I worked for two years at a gay bar/club, and have 10 very close friends that are gay, and a wider aquaintence with the gay community of my city. I've been to all their houses, not one console! not one xbox, ps, or nintendo product. I find it shocking truly.

I don't know what else I'm supposed to say; him being gay has nothing to do with him loving games. He also happens to like badminton, running and swimming.

Oh and he prefers fish over red meat. Come to think of it, so do I.

What I'm trying to say is that I think there is an inherent flaw in your thinking and the way your framed your OP. "I'm sure they exist in the huge world of mmorg or fpser's or rpgers any genre." Of course they do, they're people!. They simply do not shout out to the world that 'I'm Gay! I'm Gay!" just like you do not shout out to the world 'I'm Heterosexual! I'm Heterosexual!"

Because, frankly, it isn't anyone's business but theirs, just as your sexual preferences are no-one elses business but yours.

Gays arent some kind of mystery sect of humans. They are just like you and me and everyone else.

I don't know any homosexuals that well to begin with, and even then they're middle-aged so I don't think they'd play many video-games.

besides, I know them well enough to know that they're people just like you and me and I'm pretty sure that's the case with most gays (That's not an offensive term is it, if anyone who's homosexual or knows if it is or not passes by feel free to drop a line here) so why should their sexual preference dictate their hobbies?

What offended you? It's an honest question. He acknowledges that there must be gay gamers out there, he's just shocked that he has never met any himself. Do you get offended when people say, "Geez, there aren't many white people at these hip hop concerts."? That sure wouldn't offend me .. but anyways.

I think the gay gamer community is a little small, but its definately there. Bioware gave you the ability to have a male-male romantic relationship in Dragon Age, but only female-female in ME2 (could be wrong on specifics, but I think that's right). I remember reading an article where the head of a gay-gaming community was disappointed that Bioware had taken a step backwards when it came to sexual neutrality.

On topic. I know two gay peoples and they don't game.

I am curios to know why your bothered? Just 'cos you like a bit of guy on guy or girl on girl action shouldn't make any difference to your hobbies, except the obvious.

I might aswell start a thread saying "only dark haired people play games 'cos I don't know any light haired gamers".

Take this with a pinch of salt though, I always get taken the wrong way.

Hmm, not sure if you're being sarcastic, or implying that nobody else took the question seriously.

I've always thought it was odd how underrepresented the gay community is in gaming, and game development, as well. Perhaps it's just the fact that it's still a fledgling form of media, too many homophobic children still hanging around waiting for the next Halo clone?

Yes I have. Of both genders. Also bisexual gamers of both gender.
I've also heard some rumours that some of them ride bikes, use rudimentary tools, and even drive cars.
To keep the surprises coming: I've met heterosexual guys that like Broadway musicals!

I'm just saying that there's an implication that gay people are somehow different from "regular" people in any way other than sexual orientation. Like we need to say "wow, they're just like us!"

The strong sense of "other"ness is a lot of why prejudice exists where it shouldn't.

first off i'm a girl, secondly as I stated previously none of my gay friends have picked a video game since SNES, actually not true my friend Ray owned a 64, he is the only one, of course they could all be closet WoWers, but I see them to often lol
