Have you ever really liked a character everyone else hated?

People hate Moira??
I've found people on Youtube who genuinely despaired when Moira survived the destruction of Megaton.
Wha? The sole charater in Fallout 3 that had a personality that wasn't boring or cliche'?
How the hell do you hate that? She was delightfully psychotic, and in a good way too!

On Topic: Hmm. This is hard. I can think of entire movies that I liked that most people hated (The Spirit, for example). Individual characters...hmm. Not quite so much.

Kimahri Ronso, from FF10. Nobody liked him, calling him the "useless furry" etc. Ok, fair point he sucked when compared to the Big Four (Tidus, Wakka, Auron, Yuna), but he earns major points by being the sole character who constantly looks pissed because he's stuck in FF10; he literally looks like he just wants to get out.

If FF10 ended with Kimahri tearing Tidus's head off in a blind rage (like I wanted to the entire game), it would have been a much, MUCH better game. Ultimate Cathartic Release.

but my gaming friends ALL disagree
Dude, I loved Captain Quark. Captain Quark made that game for me. He was hilarious. I couldn't get enough of the guy in Up Your Arsenal. And it was pretty funny when he changed his name to Steve and tried to sell you shit. All of my friends just hate Ratchet and Clank in general...

Everyone seems to hate Squall but he has always been one of my favorite characters.

Alistair - and a few others, but I forget.
this for sure

i love his sarcasm =] especially when him and morrigan have their side conversations

ot: honestly i like just about all jrpg characters i have ever seen, i'd MUCH rather have a character with a personality and emotions then have a cut out (literally) character with no words and they never interact with anything. (to each their own though, and sometimes the silent protagonist works...SOMETIMES)

Nathan Drake from Uncharted. Alot of people can't stand him and say he is a douche but I find him entertaining.

Also, I think Sasuke gets a pretty bad rap. He's an arrogant jerkass turned psychopath, yes, but he's not some whiny angsty brat, just a prick.
Sasuke from Naruto? If so, I would agree there. Naruto is ultimatley my favorite charactor... well actually a handful of them are. I wouldn't put Sasuke in my favorite charactor bunch as his role is pretty played out, but I don't think he is annoying or anything. Of course, I am only up to the part where the Hokagi is being attacked by the snake guy. Oni-sumthin? Sasuke is chasing down the guy with the urn of sand on his back.

Sander Cohen.
He's basically a murderous version of Tingle.
Really? I thought everybody loved Sander's insanity.

OT: Raiden. I mean, he's no Snake, and that's obvious. He's still pretty cool thought. He took down 6 Rays alone before getting captured, that's gotta show for something.

Sophia Lamb from Bioshock 2. When the game came out, everyone seemed to think she was a terrible antagonist, but I think that's just because everyone had their bar set so high with Andrew Ryan. I found listening to the tapes of hers pretty interesting, and I think she was a decent villain.

The comic relief character from Lost Odessy. My personal favorite scene in that game is when two of the main characters are having a somewhat melodramatic conversation about their quest's importance and he walks through the door behind them drunk, holding a beer in one hand and a random women in the other. I laughed my ass off.

And yes, im calling it a character, as ive never known anything get as much hate as it, and i loved every moment around it.
Fellow Mako lovers, UNITE! I loved that thing. Easily my favourite part of the original ME.
And this. Seriously, I don't get why everyone hates it (they probably just sucked at fighting thresher maws)
The Mako wasn't all that bad as a vehicle, it was just not at all designed for climbing mountains, which pretty much every other planet makes you do. Also, its shields took WAY too long to regen.

Ah, yes, the crazy sociopathic douchebag who keeps trying to take over the ship. God bless him!

(Not being sarcastic. Really. Him, Greer, and possibly Eli are the only characters I like on the show.)

Sure. All the time.

But, the character that seems to get the most hatred that I actually like:

Amy Rose.

Yes, that's right. The same Amy Rose who basically behaves like Sonic's crazy stalker... XD
This and Tudis from FFX.

Vanille isn't that annoying, she's just really spunky and light-hearted. Unlike most of today's audiences.

I never got why people bitched about the handling literally all you had to do was point it in the right direction and hit the throttle, maybe avoid a steep mountain

OP Teryn (or however you spell it) Loghain, after watching every other character in that game whine or ***** about something stupid you can really identify with him

Jack-Mass Effect 2.
Angela-Silent Hill 2. (I don't know if anybody actually hated her.)
Raiden-MGS2.
Moira-Fallout 3.

I guess this is where opinion and personal preference come into play. I liked them and I'll leave it at that.

I have always liked Moira Brown as well, especially her little speech about why she feels she has to write the survival guide...

"Well, look around at the world we live in. It may be okay to you, but I've read about what it used to be like, and this isn't it. So we all need something that keeps us going, despite all the terrible things around us. For me, it's things like this book... did you ever try to put a broken piece of glass back together? Even if the pieces fit, you can't make it whole again the way it was. But if you're clever, you can still use the pieces to make other useful things. Maybe even something wonderful, like a mosaic. Well, the world broke just like glass. And everyone's trying to put it back together like it was, but it'll never come together the same way... the Wasteland Survival Guide isn't much towards that lofty goal, but its an important one. And that's why I need your help. I don't think I can do it alone."

Pretty much take any Final Fantasy character that everybody seems to hate, and I most probably like them. Squall, Tidus, Vanille, Hope, etc. You name 'em, I like 'em.
