I've been playing this lately. The first of its three campaigns took me 60 hours to beat. Of course, I made sure to conquer the entire map, which wasn't strictly necessary, but still.

It's funny how money can create this sort of situation. Up until I got a better job, I used to re-watch movies and TV shows constantly, I'd replay favorite games. Re-read books and comics.

In the past three years, I have too many movies, TV shows, books, comics, and video games to deal with... and I know I'm getting a much shallower experience that I used to.
whys that? nostalga?
You often discover things the second or third time through a book, movie, game. It's often fun to watch how they subtly set things up for the big pay-off.

Quick example. Fight Club. First time through, you're probably going to be surprised by the ending. Second time through you realize how many clues were dropped throughout the movie. It's a very different experience the second time through.

First time through is about the experience, subsequent visits add depth to the experience. If you don't have time to re-visit your favorite works, you miss out on a lot... then you might mistakenly start believing that older works had more depth, when in reality, it's you not actively searching for depth.

that is true...

especially wiht fight club its interesting to watch certain scenes when you know whats really going on

[spoiler/] like in the morning after you think marla is just being her usual crazy ***** self then you realises they are both acting insane as each other...and you feel kinda bad about him trater her that way (even if it was somwhat unintentional) [/spoiler]

Ya know I bought Perfect Dark on the XBLA the other day and I couldn't believe what has happened to games lately, most levels in that game are 60 seconds to a few short, yet epic, minutes.

Meanwhile, I can barely play games like Gears of War because of the damn running down and around countless rooms and hallways that all look the same for 2 hours just to beat one level.

I'm gonna go start a thread about this now actually, I need to dive deeper into this.

If it's longevity and replay value you want, try the Civilization games. There's a reason why it coined the phrase "just one more turn."
