I was just thinking about the world's worst euphemism: heck. It's really terrible! Think about it, the two most common non-euphemism things to put after "What the" are "hell" and "fuck"... well, let's look at heck:
HEll fuCK.
Do you see what I'm saying? By saying "what the heck", you're actually combining the two to form one really terrible way out. And people get onto me for saying jackhole. Now, I didn't a definitive etymology of "heck" but I can't help but see this as not a coincidence.
So, my point here is... hell isn't really that bad of a swear word, if one at all. So, why do people use this really stupid euphemism? Do you use it?
Personally, I'm a Christian and I have no problem with most swearing as long as its not overused and used in the right place. I've said "what the heck" before, but that's only because I'd be in trouble if I said "hell". I will no longer say "what the heck" after realizing that it's basically both "bad words" combined.
And barely related, I really hate it when people substitute hell when it's used properly. For example "you're going to die and go to heck!"
