Hey guys and gals, I'm trying to come up with a topic for my communication research thesis and I'm planning on basing on Twitter. I just have a few questions about twitter that I hope you guys could answer. Your answers would help me formulate a more specific research topic. Thanks.

1. Do you use twitter? And if yes, how often do you use it and what do you use it for?
2. Do you really think twitter is an antidote to information overload as the site claims? Why?
3. What do you think of Twitter recently changing the main question they asked their users from "What are you doing?" to "What's happening?"

You guys could also post your thoughts about twitter that aren't covered by the previous questions. Thanks again.

Sorry for the weird topic btw, I was playing DOTA.

1. No
2. From what I've seen, no. People just post multiple times instead.
3. It hasn't affected me.

1. No I don't use Twitter.
2. No, If anything it increases the infomation overload. I really do not need to know what flavour chewing gum my mate was chewing on the bus...
3. I guess it encourages more conversation if someone is free to comment on what is going on around them as opposed to what is only happening to them.

Twitter sucks is my general opinion, but I am an introverted type. I neither desire nor require the knowledge of what's going through everyone else's mind. Mine is far too busy on it's own.

1. No.
2. No, it pretty much is the cause of information overload (Unless I misunderstand your question).
3. Don't care.

Apathetic enough for ya'? :)

1. No
2. Someone posting how cool it was that they ran a red light 50 billion times is hardly overloading me with any USEFUL information.
3. Makes most "tweets" probably more pointless.

1: No
2: Stupid catch phrases are rarely anything close to accurate. More like "An information toilet that already has other peoples shit in it!"
3: Because too many people said "your mom".

1. No, what use is it?
2. I'd have to say, yeah.
3. Considering my lack of usage of Twitter, it hasn't changed me. Though I do like the idea of changing it to What's happening, sadly it doesn't lead to my preferred results. Conversations about topics that really matter, and possibly ideals altering concepts.

{3} Just you wait until they change it again to "WAZZAAAP!!!". THEN, ask me what I think of Twitter.

1) No
2) Definitely not. It's more of what's causing it. I don't need to know your every thought every second of every day.
3) Don't care.

I despise Twitter, but I also hate Facebook and the like. It's just the way I am I guess.

2. An ANTIDOTE to information overload? Absolutely the contrary. From what ive seen twitter makes you learn way more about other people's lives then you would ever fucking care to.
3. Umm... ok? I don't know if they did it to sound "cool" they failed horribly.

1. No.
2. Twitter is the information overload, I don't care what you're doing every other moment. If I wanted to know I would have asked.
3. Can't really answer this one.

Twitter should only be used for important or interesting things but since so many people really don't have shit to say it gets wasted on people posting random shit every other moment.
As a result, I think that twitter could actually be used against people, if a stalker were to find someone's twitter they could view what that person is doing at that moment, for example. But then again that would be that person's fault for not making their account private. Which makes me feel anyway that people don't know their limits, especially since their is no regulation on how many tweets you can post in an hour.

Also, its another one of those sites that claim to seemingly act as though it can bring everyone together, but I feel it does just the opposite. It stifles communication by becoming the middle man for communication. Atleast in the context of close friends.

2. "antidote to information overload" ... to put it simply. Yes. As it is full of nothing but mindless drivel.
3. Could not care less.

Anyway bebo, facebook, twitter, myspace. All of these things are just pure crap and designed for 13 year old girls. If you are over 13 and possess testicles then you should be ashamed to ever use any of these. (Except when say checking up on some slapper you met and perving at all her slutty photos.)
Weirdly, I do have facebook, over 13 and sport a fullsome pair of cojones. What could this possibly mean?.

EDIT: I've got it!. Perhaps this discrepancy stems from the fact that maybe the UK networks are a tad better than the NZ ones?.

I think it's time to change the tune.

1) Yes, I use it multiple times daily. I use it more of a chat-device, rather than a status update.
2) I don't know. I guess it can be an overload itself, if you follow a bunch of non-replying celebrities who are very narcissistic.
3)I didn't even notice the change.

1. No. (I like my soul where it is)
2. Ok, I don't really understand the question so I'll see if I can guess the right answer. NO!!! All people do is drivel on about useless faeces. How can something solve an overload problem by shoving more crap in there?
3. ... I don't see how that affects anything but if you can explain in your thesis how it does then good for you.

1.) No. I've abstained this long, don't intend on changing that any time soon.
2.) No. People just re-post duplicates of what other people have posted.*
3.) Wasn't aware of the change, nor would I have known without reading the OP.

*I can't actually navigate twitter - it's seriously disorienting.

1. No, but I have an account made in an attempt to keep up with friends.
2. Hell no. I think it creates information overload more so than other sites because so many people use it to relay so many inane things.
3. I had no clue they'd changed the question, but my guess is that they may be trying to include groups (e.g. Escapist Magazine) that use Twitter as well as individuals.

1. No, not really, only check accounts of people who I really follow as Internet game reviewer (or some stuff like that)
2. No, that's bullshit advertising.
3. They've gone insane.
Seriously though, it's nothing special.

1. No.
2. I don't see how it's antidote for it in anyway. It's a catalyst, if anything.
3. I guess it was made more general to better fit in with all the different things people tweet about. I dunno, it doesn't seem important at all.

this has given me a wonderful idea! i'm gonna go on Twitter, and one by one, i'm going to use people's obsessive twittering of there wereabouts to hunt them down and kill them, slowly ridding the world of thos horrible twittards 8D
