1. Do you use twitter? And if yes, how often do you use it and what do you use it for?
2. Do you really think twitter is an antidote to information overload as the site claims? Why?
3. What do you think of Twitter recently changing the main question they asked their users from "What are you doing?" to "What's happening?"
1: Yes. I check up on it about... twice a day?
I use it to see what some of my favourite celebrities are saying.
Some of them are rather funny. :p

2: No. It can be fun, sure. Useful, on occasion.
But I don't see how it's an "antidote", at all.

3: Umm... More and more people seem to be talking about what's going on around them, or some other piece of news they think is exciting.
Less and less about themselves.
So... Cutting out the middle man, I spose?
...
Personally, though?
This didn't affect me at all. I had completely forgotten they even did that, until you said it just now. :p

Hope that helps? ^_^

1. Why would you use twitter? If you didn't use it when it was unpopular, why now when it's popular, moreso then myspace was and facebook recently was? I have NFI why people use it, maybe sad lives?

2. The hell is information overload, and why do people use twitter? It's the equivalent of shouting off a rooftop about what you have done, no one cares.

3. Who cares?

1. Tried it once... didnt see point
2. If anything, it makes people inform others of things all the time... and mundane boring things. I wish I could follow the twitter account of a man who fights bears or something. But no, I dont think it is at all.
3. I think that leads to more mundane things being spread by people shouting into a void for a response to make themselves feel fuzzy. Instead of actually asking people what they are doing and explain it... its more of the mundane "long line at starbucks... need to do laundry"

I've always thought this was funny, a small, yet (slightly) relevant distraction from your paper:

1) No
2) No, it does the opposite; gives us information we neither want nor need
3) I think it's because once, at some point, someone actually used twitter to reveal something important(it was mentioned in the Sydney Morning Herald a while ago- Don't ask me what it was, though, I just skimmed over it). Now, by the sounds of it, Twitter is trying to pretend it is an effective medium for useful news and information, and "what's happening?" is a more suitable question for this, as opposed to the confining "what are you doing?". That's my theory, anyway

1.Yes, but only to vote for the Escapist for the best online magazine.
2.As people have said, it's more the cause of the information overload, than anything else.
3.I'm going with the herd here, and I'm saying Who cares?

1. Yes, Mostly to follow webcomics, artists, magazines and blogs that I enjoy.
2. No, I see it as the next iteration of social networking. It is essentially Facebook without the cruft.
3. I was unaware of that occurrence until reading the OP. I don't think it is important.

EDIT: It's funny how most of the people criticizing it also don't use it.

1. I did, I was something of an early adopter, had a couple of Twitter apps on my phone but I just couldn't keep it going, I found it insipid.
2. In a word, no. Information comes in many forms, two of which are 'useful' and 'useless,' and Twitter is the height of useless information overload.
3. People won't take much notice. The site will still function the same.

1. No I don't. However I would if all my friends were on it, as that is what first got me into Facebook which I quite like.
2. No, Twitter promotes the overload of random and frankly stupid status updates which already plague Facebook, things like "I'm tired" or "Goodnight", those sorts of things. The problem is, if I were on Twitter I probably would say those things as well.
3. It makes me think that Twitter is trying to move the attention away from the individual by changing the scope of the question. Instead of the question being specifically about the user (what are you doing right now) it focuses on the events surrounding them to try and remove the egocentric style that Twitter promotes.

this has given me a wonderful idea! i'm gonna go on Twitter, and one by one, i'm going to use people's obsessive twittering of there wereabouts to hunt them down and kill them, slowly ridding the world of thos horrible twittards 8D
Unless you're Batman that venture of yours will be quite costly. I mean obtaining a tourist visa these days cost quite a lot and let's not even begin on the prices in the aviation industry. A return ticket nowadays cost the same as an around the world ticket did two years ago.

1. No
2. Not in any way shape or form
3. I actually think that's a less appealing question <.<

Furthermore, I think this is really the wrong place to ask about twitter. Of the entire first page, only 2 people said they actually use it.

1. Yes. About one tweet a day, on average, and mostly to talk to my friends or just announce random goings-on
2. No, the limit to characters simply encourages people to post multiple times, in my experience.
3. It doesn't matter, nor has it had any affect on me or my friends.

Hey guys and gals, I'm trying to come up with a topic for my communication research thesis and I'm planning on basing on Twitter. I just have a few questions about twitter that I hope you guys could answer. Your answers would help me formulate a more specific research topic. Thanks.

1. Do you use twitter? And if yes, how often do you use it and what do you use it for?
2. Do you really think twitter is an antidote to information overload as the site claims? Why?
3. What do you think of Twitter recently changing the main question they asked their users from "What are you doing?" to "What's happening?"

You guys could also post your thoughts about twitter that aren't covered by the previous questions. Thanks again.

Sorry for the weird topic btw, I was playing DOTA.
1. No, the idea of it doesn't fit my personality.
2. Not at all, the opposite in fact. It replaces possibly meaningful information with absolutely useless information, only changing the type of overload.
3. I think nothing of it. I don't get into semantics of corporation slogans etc. much.

2. No way, type in one word and you'll get shitloads of people talking about what they're having for their breakfast
3. Idk haven't been on, really. Might be to weed out the fucktarded breakfast tweets but I doubt that will happen.

1. No
2. If people can't deal with more than a snippet of information, then they shouldn't really be on the internet.
3. Makes no difference.

1. I do use it but hardly ever. When i do i try to use it to benefit my blog.
2. So many companies advertise their twitter feeds etc and in a way it is helpful to give information but at the same time its very good at spamming your inbox or taking control of what you view everyday.
3. It just reminds me of Office Space.
