Oh lesbian transgender liberal female space marines in a love triangle with a black Eldar and a peace love Ork. It'd make ArchWarhammer explode and it would be amazing.
Well I won't be getting a Warhammer Fantasy adaption anytime soon because people forget it exists.

Well, it would have been embarrassingly bad, so I can't say I 'm too upset.

I mean we have Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. Its not exact, but its pretty damned close.
Do both of those have Techno Plague Rats that live underground that has Machine Guns?

Do the Human Kingdoms in those have Steam Tanks?

Are Daemons are far more common sight in those settings?

Eh, for me it's that "who's the baddies?" has a really straightforwards answer in LotR. And Got is much more puerile than WHFB. Yeah, I said it.

Have you read the Warhammer Fantasy novels to compare it to the purerileness of GOT?

Not all of them, I gave up on GW for a while before the AOS stuff, and I've not read GoT, but saw the first few seasons of the show (only judging by the show).

There are some really good WHFB books, a number of good books, some passable ones and some not great ones. I was actually re-reading a bunch, got down to "A Murder in Marienburg" (which is definitely in the "not great category") and went on the the Malus Darkblade series, which verges on being OTT edgy and dark like the GoT series, but is otherwise a decent book.

Aw, but watching the fanboys froth over any lore inaccuracy would've been so much fun. Three words. Female space marine. They'd lose all their shit.
I know sod all about WH40K but I feel confident I could invent a possible (if improbable) origin for them that would…..well okay it would probably still piss off fanboys but it wouldn’t need come at the expense of the father/son dynamic between the Astartes and the Primarchs

Eh, as long as they are a new thing, or have been secret for millennia. Not one of those things that have been around for 10,000 years but just weren't mentioned til now.

I’d go with new. Makes it easier than the old ‘Secret Legion’ thing.

Um, really?

I'd say Fantasy's still more well-known than Age of Sigmar.

It's not impossible to create female Space Marines, but I've gone on length saying why I dislike the idea before, so here's the TL, DR:

-GW's already done one asspull with the Primaris marines, doing another one so close is really pushing things.*

-I'd be more sympathetic to the idea if the people pushing for female Space Marines were also pushing for male Sisters of Battle/Sisters of Silence, but no, the logic appears to be that all-male orders are a no-no, while all-female orders are fine.

-You point out, correctly, that it throws a wringer in the father/son dynamic. Could you do something interesting with a deviation from that dynamic? Absolutely. But I never see that reasoning given, the people who tend to want female Space Marines often want them for the sake of their presence, and nothing else.

For what it’s worth, my idea involves the Sisters of Battle locating some actual daughters of the Emperor - in the same vein as the Senseis - and basically going behind the back of the Ecclesiarchy and the Astartes chapters and creating their own augmented superhuman military units, Sororitas Astartes, as a sort of “Shit’s fucked, unleash the Kraken” button they can push when the consequences of answering the Inquisitor’s questions are preferable to not deploying them.

Cawl's too busy fucking about with Necron pylons to build female astartes.

Plus, with Space Marines being post-Human roid monsters, does gender even really apply to them? And if people really want Space Marines with tits, go play as a Slaanesh warband.

Space Marines have always been male, referred to as "brothers," etc.

Or, in other words, the duck test.

Warhammer has very much created its own style, but it is unoriginal and shallow. WFB is basically just Tolkein plus "Chaos", 40k is Space Tolkein with Starship Troopers and "Chaos", and Chaos was nicked straight off Michael Moorcock. Like most IPs that exist to support a game, the narrative is driven by commercial requirements, for a primarily adolescent audience, and written by people whose specialism is game design rather than narrative. (And they've done enough wrong over the years I don't always even trust them on game design.) I can't say I've ever read a 40k novel, but that's because I've read the blurbs and they look very one-dimensional. If in the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, they could hardly be telling us harder that it's one-dimensional.

Strongly disagree there. WHFB (like all fantasy) owes something to Tolkien, often via DnD, however it also has a lot of surrealism and political commentary. Not, on the whole, in-depth political commentary, but in Tolkien it's very clear cut black and white, while GW plays around with black and dark grey. 40k is a kitchen sink space fantasy where they've tried to hammer all the various bits together in a way that makes sense if you don't look at it too much from a distance. You could just as well look at it from another direction and say that 40k is Space Lovecraft, or Space emo vampire fics or Space Alien rip-offs and not be wrong.

That was a clever decision by the games designers (and also, it was around the 80s and Britain, and dystopias were popular under Thatcher and all). It doesn't really fit Tolkien to have the Riders of Rohan fighting Gondor all the time, but you can turn up with your Empire army and fight someone with their Bretonnian army (or even their other Empire army) and that's fine cause everyone hates everyone else and themselves.

Having said that, there's problems when people don't want to play satirical Nazis types and want to play heroic fantasy where it tries to become Tolkien and fails.
