I hate this fortnight before Christmas, not due to the cold or the the fact i have a week left of college. Its that bloody X-Factor! Ok i know its the most watched thing ever and was a pretty good idea to begin with, but MY GOD please let it die. Every single year we watch thousands have their dreams smashed (which can be funny sometimes) and then the public starts talking non-stop about who was crap and who should win while the tabloids publish sex-scandals and whatnot about everyone on it. Then we have to watch the final in which everyone cries, someone starts burning CDs and then watch as it becomes the biggest thing since Jesus. And then after all the repeats on them winning and there song becoming Christmas number one we totally forget they exist.
In short my question is WHAT IS THE POINT IN X-FACTOR?! And also do you actually watch/enjoy it?

You... You are me...

Plus, they will become pop, at least American Idol have daughtry, "What I want" really was quite good. Us Brits have to listen to talentless squealers, that make me turn my MP3 as high as it goes whenever someone plays it. At least you need talent to play instruments in a metal band.

I wish people would finally fufil their promise of boycotting X-Factor for the christmas Number 1. Admittedly I never watch it and dont care about the winners sob story but please, for the love of all that is everything, stop this reign of musical terror...

People blame many things for the decline of the music industry, video game substitute instruments, piracy, the overwhelming effort it takes to get started in the modern music business, personally I just blame Simon Cowell.

I'm guessing X-Factor is somewhat like American Idol? If it is, then I agree with you, these shows need to die.

Indeed, its as if in 30 years time over 25% of the globe will be "Pop-Stars" from such feeble excuses for TV entertainment shows popping up all over the place.

Now I'm all for 'new talent' being found in the country (so long as it's real talent and not just someone who can sing mediocre currently-existing songs on demand), props to them for being able to sing so well and all. But do you have to show the entire drudgery of the process on TV?

Yes the TV rights are the main thing thats funding this talent-hunt-thingy, but I'd rather watch a show describing how they choose the right colour of paint in an office. And then watch them paint it. And then watch the paint dry. Just about as much fun as the X Factor and other like-programs.

I only care about the auditions in the beginning. The poor, delusional people who think they can sing... hilarious.

Am I the only one who doesn't know what the XFactor is? I googled it, checked their website, but honestly, none of it told me anything about it. WHAT IS THE X-FACTOR?

It's a talent show. People come on, sing, Simon Cowel insults them, they cry, the sing some more, then they sing live, then people vote for who they want to win, everybody cries.
Shitty talent shows.

If the entire series was just this bit, it'd be watchable (to some extent).
As it is though, I agree and really wish that the producers would put it out of our misery...

Ye gods I want this programme to just die!
The first few episodes are okay, just okay that's all. I might watch maybe only one of them and laugh at poor deranged people but by the gods it is such a debacle of human dross that it should not even be worthy of recognition beyond the act of burning it.

Bah!

You forget Strictly Come Prancing. Between the two of them, the months leading up to Christmas are TV hell. Or would be, if I watched TV much.

Although saying that, you have to admire the British spirit of keeping on the worst dancer, stage after stage after stage. John Sergeant kept on surviving being voted off the show, basically because the viewers wanted to see....someone fail at it every week?

It's the same kind of voting that attributed Rick Astley winning the MTV 2008 awards for Best Act (gotta love automatic-proxy-voting), and it's damn funny seeing all the others who thought they deserved to get the award complain that they've been "robbed" by someone else.

... I'm assuming I'm lucky for this, but I have no clue what X-Factor is.
If it's reality TV, though, I don't need to know it. I agree with you.

Name me any "popular" stars that have come from these so called "Talent" shows.

-Will Young (last I saw he was on Top Gear...)
-Girls Aloud (Luck and Looks)
-Leona Lewis (Because she's got so much support)

What about all those other years? All those so-called "stars" have drifted off into the nothingness of reality TV.
