FUCK this guy! Four people were asked to leave this plane. (Yes, United made a mistake with loading too many people on this flight.) Three of them comply without incident. This asshole decided to engage in a war of wills with the flight crew and then security. Eventually, he loss.

Why are so many people are sympathetic to this asshole? To ask a bigger question: Why are so many people complain when someone acts obnoxious, rude, and/or criminal gets punished? Why are so many people against personal accountability for stupid jerks? They want companies, police, politicians, and even people who were protecting themselves and their property to be accountable. A lot of people just don't want to hold people who are committing criminal acts against companies, police, and people who were protecting themselves and their property accountable for their actions.

To turn it around, why should United be absolved of blame for their idiocy in overbooking, the flight, boarding too many passengers, not making the offer to get 4 people to de board sweet enough failing to find an alternative means to move their employees (yes the four spots on this plane were for their own staff who were not paying passengers)? At every turn during this entire process there was a choice made that could have de-escalated this situation or prevented it and United made the wrong one at each point.

Selling the same car twice is illegal. Selling the same food twice is illegal. selling the same sports arena seat twice is illegal. Selling the same plane seat twice is perfectly fine?

Last point. Maybe they have the right to do this. But as of this writing United's stock is worth 550 million less than it was before this happened. The utterly tone deaf response to this incident is going to cost them a lot because travel is tied to hospitality and this was most inhospitable.

Companies make mistakes. They do the best they can to correct it. That what they were doing with these four people. All, but this one guy, affected by that mistake found what how United handled it reasonable. They did take the time to de-escalate it. At some point, you do have take action. How would you like to invite someone over to your house. Then this person refuses to leave. Even after, you politely asked him to and you even bribe him to leave.

When you buy a ticket, you expect to be able to use it. You plan things around it. Why should a system be set up where you can pay money for a ticket, turn up at the expected time and not be allowed to fly? And this happens to 46,000 people a year on US airlines alone. That is a fucked up system. (Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-39556910 )

Oh, and from the BBC article - the guy claimed to be a doctor with patients to see the next morning. Yes, what a self entitled millenial.

Your analogy sucks. I'm not in the habit of inviting people over, having them pay me to be invited and then kick the shit out of them when they don't leave. It happens literally thousands of times a year that they screw up in this manner. This just happens to be the first time someone wasn't compliant in their breach of contract.

Frankly whether the company is allowed to do this or not. But they were fucking stupid at every stage. Every stage of the process they chose wrong. Maybe you think it's OK to beat the shit out of someone for the consequences of your mistake, but I was brought up to own my own shit. They fucked up, they are getting criticized for it and thy have only themselves to blame.

However, you don't feel that this guy should "own his own shit". How was this company "stupid at every stage"? They found out after they loaded the people on this plane that they needed four seats for their employees to go their next assignment. That sounds like a simple mistake. Yes, it was inconvenient for these four people to de-board the plane and catch another flight. However, three of them had no problem with how United handled this situation. (Seriously, I cannot emphasize this point enough.) How exactly is this the fault of United Airlines for "triggering" this asshole to obnoxiously refuse any offers and pleas of the flight crew and security? What exactly should they have done differently to deal with this passenger?

Sorry fo rth edouble post but this is new information.

Leonard French has just released a new video on this.

He went over the contract of Carriage that united uses as it's basis for taking these actions and they may very wel be in full breach of them.

They could have picked another passenger. They could have upped their offer.

And for how much they're losing from bad PR and the inevitable lawsuit, they could have chartered a plane for their employees instead of forcing a Doctor who had patients to get back too off the plane, mauling him in the process.

But keep backing the authoritarians, I guess.

Here is a good explanation of WHY this happens and WHY United won't suffer long term damage for this. Brought to you by the network that hosts your, The Escapist's, antichrist: http://fusion.net/airlines-can-treat-you-like-garbage-because-they-are-an-1794192270

Welcome to your next stage in liberty and stuff.

Didn't you know? Doctors are nothing but spoiled millenials. The authoritarians are in the right to do this.

Yeah, he should have joined the Corps and learned to take abuse without complaint like a good little citizen. Always submit unquestioningly to authority or the millennials win.

According to carriage contracts on the flight he had every right to be and remain seated once boarded. He was illegally removed.

Check the video in my last post. United was very likely in violation of their own charter which is a binding contract. That makes them in fact the criminals in this case.

Yeah, this guy and his criminal behavior of having doctor's appointments to get to.

Swear to god, if you've ever referred to leftists, SJWs, or feminists criticizing video games as "the authoritarian left", I hope you get an inconvenient rash.

United's stock is already over half a billion down. It's delicious.
