Just play a horror game with every light around you off and headphones in your ears. That'll get you immersed pretty easily.

Silent Hill 2, definitely.

But I really got into games like The Punisher, Max Payne, Halo: CE, Half-Life 2 and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

I've found that games with an amazing audio component tend to be more immersive.

But for the PS2, Genji: Dawn of the Samurai, Onimusha 2, God Hand, BoF: Dragon Quarter and Valkyrie Profile 2.

I can't relate, i've never really had that problem.
It's not uninteresting games, it's uninterested people.

Perhaps the problem is that you buy too many games? If you buy a game and get bored with it after two hours, then you definitely didn't buy the right game for you. Read some more reviews, join discussions, go along with the hype flow and try to refrain from impulse purchases and you should be fine.

Don't think over what it is supposed to be, and just roll with what the game offers. Immersion is often broken down by the mind, because we want the game to something it's not.

Immersion is a personal thing really. You need to find something that really appeals as an interesting concept or something you think will provide a mental sink. Other people may be able to make suggestions (and some games are recognisably more immersive than others) but it comes down to personal preference. If you have close gamer friends you're better off asking them because they will likely know your tastes better, and have background knowledge to make accurate suggestions.

I've been noticing that i have a hard time being immersed in games, ill buy new games and then become bored with them after an hour or two. There are very few titles that have entranced me enough to warrant a full playthrough, like the Half-Life series, but my favorite game so far would be Resident Evil 4, this is the only game i have ever bought that i have ever beaten all the way through four times. Could you give me any suggestions on what games i might like from the survival horror genre, or any tips on how to become more immersed in games.
Condemned Criminal Origins will draw you in and have you sleeping with the lights on for days after finishing it. The House at the end is the scariest bits in a game I've ever played.

Read others posts before you post.
Don't be so absurd, this is a forum which means I can contribute even if I repeat someone else's opinion.

EDIT: What are you talking about anyway, no one has mentioned it yet.

I was writing this while doing other things so the fact he has a PS2 was not knowledge to me. Besides, you should read the OP:

To which you replied:

"God Of War games, The Jak games were also quite awesome, Devil May Cry, Canis Canem Edit, Xmen Legends, Prince Of Persia, Grand Theft Auto, Shadow Of The Fucking Colossus!"
These are not Survival Horror games and you don't give any tips for improving immersion.

Mass Effect, Fallout series, Bioshock and Dead Space are all examples of games that have involving storytelling that motivates you to play through. As for the survival horror genre, Resident evil four is excellent.

ive already tried the metal gear solid series and im not a big fan, is there any other really good survival horror series other than Resident Evil and Silent Hill?
...not really, try a different genre.do you want something with a long life?a short but immersing life?

myself,I enjoyed dragon quest VIII and syphon filter:the omega strain(I had to gameshark for the weapons,no multiplayers piece and got game way out of new game age)you could try putting the money you use on games you don't even end up liking and put it towards a new system.

so you already played RE and SH or you dont want to play them). if you want to play a good survival horror game but dont want to play these two then you dont want to play the genre at all. There's also fatal frame wich is scarier but it is slower.

People have problems with immersion when they either have ADHD, in which case I would say just the fuck up and pay attention, stop taking your happy pills for a while and join the real world. and the other is that the game just sucks.
Half-life is immersible because it's an awesome game and a game world that you can be drawn into. Something like Red Faction for example might be a good game back doesn't have that little extra pull that makes you get involved and feel like you're actually in the game yourself. Some games have a good story and some are pretty, but the ones that have a little of everything are the ones that people like to play.
Also playing the game on easy first will let you get into the game without being pressed to beat it with any challenge. And then once you beat the game and enjoyed it, then you go back and play it on the harder difficulty, like Call of Duty: Modern Warefare

Fallout 3, that immerses the crap out of me.
Mine shattered when I stood on the seesaw in Minefield wearing 500 kilograms of Powered Armour, but it didn't go down.

EDIT: Fallout 3 isn't survival horror anyway. One needs to make a pure Unarmed build on Very Hard, and even then, it's only survival until Level 10 or so.

Me too but it takes more than a couple of hours before it gets interesting and really immersive.
OP sounds like he wouldn't make it out of the vault before getting board.

Saints Row 2 will get you immersed more quickly.

I recommend Dead Space; I didn't think it was mindblowing (I didn't really think RE4 was either) but if you liked RE4, you'll like DS.
