I second your hate on head bobbing, but not because it looks stupid. It gives me motion sickness. Just about every first person game where the view bobs or even the gun directly in front of me bobs turns me into a nausesous, head pain riddled mess withtin 10 to 15 minutes and it doesn't go away for at least a half hour. I've actually had to return or give up on games because of this. I have used motion sickness medicine and/or seabands and they seem to help but I'd rather not have to find a way around being violently ill because of a stupid looking feature.Irridium said:I'd also like to take this moment to hate on head-bobbing. I still use the Shotgun extensively in Doom 3 (I'd estimate about 40-50% of my total kills are with the Shotgun). It has power (and the most plentiful ammo, by far), it's just that compared to real-life shotguns, or even the shotguns from the previous Doom games, it's HILARIOUSLY inaccurate.Kyrinn said:Weird, the shotgun in Doom 3 was probably my mot used weapon. With how close quarters the game was I found it extremely efficient. It was loads better than the machine gun anyways.
Also am I the only one who actually enjoyed Doom 3?
I quite like Doom 3. I don't think it's a Doom game in the sense that it seems completely separate to Dooms 1, 2, 64 and Final Doom, but on its own it's pretty good I think. Besides, id have a habit of a franchise going in several separate directions at once (how many different universes are there in the Quake series?)Kyrinn said:Weird, the shotgun in Doom 3 was probably my mot used weapon. So much of that game takes place in extreme close-quarters that they had to adjust its accuracy, just so that it wouldn't dominate everything.
Still, they have the tech to traverse between Earth and Mars, yet their shotgun is about as accurate as a blunderbuss.

I seriously don't know what to do when confronted with options for pc games nowadays. Motion Blur by definition is ruining an otherwise crystal clear vista. But it adds realism!(?) Head bobbing lets me feel like I'm really running. Weapon shaking, landing viewshake, mouse smoothing. And most of them are so minute it's imperciptible either way for me, so I don't know what they even mean.Irridium said:I never get why motion blur is a thing. Just... why? Why the hell does it exist? And why do they make the fov so low on the PC? It's fine when you're sitting far away from the tv on a console, but up close on the PC? Increase it for fuck's sake.
I'd also like to take this moment to hate on head-bobbing. Because when I think immersive , I think of the screen bouncing up and down like you're walking in a fucking bouncy-castle.
Funny - Treyarch ARE the guys, which give CoD the FoV-Slider. Only up to 80 in BO1 and BO2, but they give it one.JJShaw said:and if you choose not to include a FOV option as a "design choice", because people getting headaches and nausea is just so much more hilarious (yes Treyarch, I'm looking at you)
Field of View. Basically, the angle of your characters view. A FoV of 90 is considered a good standard for PC, 80 the bare minimum. Lower could cause headaches for some people, FAR lower WILL cause 'em.Darth_Payn said:But I don't need the 3D gimmicks, like FOV (what's that stand for?) or motion blur; just let me shoot stuff!
I almost never used anything else BUT the shotgun when I played Doom 3 the first time, it's a good weapon for when something pops out unexpectedly and firing at it on reflex before it registers, and it kills almost every enemy in the game in 1 shot if you're point blank, and since most enemies rush you, that's easy enough.Megacherv said:I quite like Doom 3. I've never liked head bobbing either, I don't understand how they thought that it was in any way desirable to anyone not to mention realistic. I don't know about everybody else, but whether I'm walking or running my head doesn't bob all that much if at all most of the time. Besides, head bobbing makes aiming, firing, and so on accurately while moving impossible.Irridium said:I'd also like to take this moment to hate on head-bobbing. When I made my Doom 3 Mod [http://www.gamefront.com/files/3839450/Doom__True_Survival__a_Doom3_Mod], the ridiculous spread of the shotgun was one of the first things I fixed. Seriously, that thing had more spread at 10 feet than real shotguns have at 100.Atmos Duality said:I still use the Shotgun extensively in Doom 3 (I'd estimate about 40-50% of my total kills are with the Shotgun). Like in minecraft on the 360, where as you move the screen lurches up and down in time with your movement. Its supposed to simulate how the vast majority of humans walk like chickens.BX3 said:Huh, y'know, I always really liked motion blur (or, the concept anyway). I actually, JUST found out it was one of those "infamous" features in modern video games quite recently. I mean, I remember Yahtzee shitting on it one time, I think, but he's Yahtzee; I didn't think the sentiment was this common. Huh, hearn something new every day.
I always find it interesting coming across pet-peeves that I never really gave a 2nd though t--
