I'm currently sitting here on a desk at my dads with my laptop. There is a mac and a pc on this desk. About every 3 seconds i hear this high-pitched squeel and it is starting to hurt my ears and i'm getting a headache. No one else can hear it. It happened to me when i was at Centre Parcs aswell, everytime we went into the main center i could always hear this high pitched squeel. It isn't my ears as when i block them from the sound i hear nothing... Is it just sensitive hearing? Thank you.

I really don't know. I know younger people can hear higher sounds than older people though.

That's the government mind control device failing. If you put on a tin foil hat it should stop.

Do you listen to very loud music, mainly through head phones / ear pieces? There is a thing (forget the mane) that if you listen to loud music for long enough you will hear a buzzing noise like you described.

It could be that or you are just focusing on a noise that no one else it. Make you mind get busy with something else nad you should just forget about it, unless it is really loud. I get it sometimes when I play a little bit too much computer, take a break see if that helps and go drink some water.

I had about a 30 minutes walk to my dads and i listened to my ipod, nearlly full volume... That might be it. But when i put hands over my ears i can't hear it anymore? It's really starting to drive me insane now... Oh, and i got my cup of water :D Thank you for the actual post with helpful information, i didn't think that kind of stuff actually happens on forums these days!

If you put your hands over your ears and you can't hear it, it is probably the latter. That also, for me, means that I would be getting a headache soon so I would stay of the computer for a while. Sleep I find helps get rid of this problem and judging by your name... well, yeah. Maybe also drink a second cup.

Still don't listen to music to loudly for a while just to be safe. Oh and you will find helpfull people on here. Sure not everyone but there will usually be one, it just happens to be me. It just depends on what you are asking and how you word it.

Tinnitus. Sign of hearing damage. If you block your ears and the sound goes, then it isn't that.

Some people can hear higher pitches than others is all. Younger people generally are better at hearing higher pitches, such as that annoying noise your electronic gear gives off.

Check this out http://listverse.com/2008/02/29/top-10-incredible-sound-illusions/ and scroll down to the bottom 'sound for under 20s only'.

I know i shouldn't listen to music loud. But while i'm walking, i'll be getting into it, i will slip my hand into the pocket and find the volume button on my ipod touch and crank it up to the next level untill im i'm basicly about to orgasm! I keep doing that and it ends up on full volume... ): I want to sleep, but i'm not tired... Also, i can't hear the sound ANYWHERE in the room apart from here... There are printers and all sorts on this desk, so it might be the electronics? Hmph. I wouldn't be suprised if it was from my own stupidness though... And yes, i've been looking around different threads, and i'm suprised how different this forum is compared to others! I like! :D

Welcome to the Escapist. We have awesome standards :) Thank the mods for that, not many trolls around here. T'is all good.

I can't really help you other than what I've already put, sorry, I'm 16, not a doctor. Just see how it goes, maybe drink a third cup of water, I find I get the noises if I don't drink enough but that might just be me. Don't do a hold your wee for a Wii on me. (damn I'm a poet)

Enjoy your stay here.

Does your iPod not have a variable maximum volume limit? Set that lower, then however often you turn it up it won't damage your ears.

This is true, and what I was going to say in response to the OP. I have the same problem. Try and go a while without listening to things so loud, or just accept that you're going to hear this high pitched squeal.

Though on second thoughts don't follow the latter advice, probably worse things will happen to your hearing if you just continue to listen to loud music.
