Is it wrong that while reading this all I could think was, "What a smart kid!"
I can't agree with you on this one. All I could think is "what a fucking retard."
IF he were really smart he would've said that he was making a political/artistic statement.

He had to know he was going to get caught. He should've at least at least came up with a crazy way to weasel out of this.

Ah, that picture brings back warm childhood memories...

Anyways, he was a definite idiot to think that would do anything helpful. Be sure to slap him in the face everyday.

Fake terrorist threat = Popularity?

Also say what you will about how dumb the act was, the kid's gotta be pretty smart to construct a makeshift bomb out of a GameBoy.

I don't know who's more of a retard. The kid or whoever found a "bomb" with a screen, cartridge slot and the word "Nintendo" on it and thought it was real.

He could have told me his plan and I could have written this article before it all happened. Muppet.

He did it to gain popularity in the school? Something tells me he did not think of the consequences when he did this.

How does planting a fake bomb make someone more popular? Seems like it would make the entire school hate him for threatening their lives.

Plus, being popular in school equals nothing after you graduate. I don't understand why people want to be popular in high school.

Oh, that crazy guy.
Wait, did he have to damage the GameBoy to do this? Like, did he take it apart, or just stick some wires to it? Because if he broke it, I vote we send him to jail for a few years.

He's a douche and an idiot, but damn, imprisonment and felony!

He does not deserve that at all.
Agreed. I think he made an honest-ish mistake in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'm not sure exactly what it's like over in the US, but I know you have a lot of bomb scares and you take them incredibly seriously, and especially with that lucky escape in New York this weekend I guess the authorities are a bit on edge.

Part of me hopes the kid is fined or put to community service, but otherwise let off. I just can't really see how a serious punishment such as a felony charge is warranted. He's a kid, he screwed up, and I bet right now he's wishing he hadn't.

Do you ever really think of the consequences? I think he got an idea, didn't think it through and did it. We all do it at that age, some of us in a more serious way than others.

As for the popularity thing, it's about fitting in. High school, in the UK at least, can be utterly brutal if you're different. Hell, I bet it is in the US too if your high school dramas have any grain of truth to them. Many of us do silly things to get people to like us, and even without knowing the kid I'm guessing that's all this was. A cry for help, perhaps?

Yes, yes I do think about the consequences. Even when I was in high school I still thought about the consequences of what might happen if I did something.

I don't get why people want to fit in. I am a loner and not fitting in has suited me fine. If he wanted to fit in there were better ways than plating a fake bomb.

Really? Man I feel old. What a strange world we live in where schools are shut down over a GameBoy with wires sticking out of it taped to a sink. How completely delusionally paranoid have we become?

I swear, nobody uses their brains about this kind of thing anymore. It's just ZOMG!!!1!!eleven! TERROR!!!||11lll and everybody immediately panics.

Honestly, more people die of Rabies than die from terrorist attacks. More people die in car accidents every month than have died from terrorist attacks in the entire history of the United States of America. Why don't we start a "War On Lightning"? It kills more people, and the war would be just about as effective.

Every time stupid crap like this panics people, we're simply giving the terrorists more power. Seriously, they control our lives without even having to do anything. Until we stop spazzing out over inane garbage like this, they're winning. That's what they're trying to do after all. Cause terror. Don't give them the satisfaction. Use your brain next time.

Huh, somebody did this stunt before he did. Inside a school bus. Gameboy is the bomb! Literally!

People don't seem to like me as much as they used to. I know! I'll make a fake bomb and everyone will laugh and laugh and laugh...
As I go to jail for a long long long time...

That has to be the most stupidest stunt ever!

This isn't something you joke about. This seems really offensive to people who lost friends and relatives in school shootings.

Nevertheless, he shouldn't get jail time for it. Just suspended and/or fined for his stupidity.
