I love how half the people here are fans of Spoony!

Too bad I was looking forward to this.

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT

This sucks, being a fan of Highlander is like being in a abusive relationship. It keeps beating us with its shit: Highlander 2, Endgames, The Source, The TV Series spin off, the Cartoon and now this, but we keep coming back because of the memories: Highlander, The TV Series and the anime. Dammit I really had hopes for this.

OH and P.S. Fuck the SpoonyOne for bringing Highlander back into my mind. I had completely giving up hope after The Source. Then came news of this game and rumors of a re-imagining for the first film and the series and then Spoony came and helped me get over The Source, Now I'm sad.

The people responsible for everything beyond the first movie (and I don't care how many this ends up being) need to be:

1) Punched to death

2) Resuscitated

3) Kicked to death

4) Resuscitated

5) Stabbed to death

6) Resuscitated

7) Shot to death

8) Resuscitated

9) Set fire to and have marshmallows roasted over them as they die.

Or is this too much?
I cannot believe you forgot decapitation via sword.

Anyways... I'm sort of disappointed at this news. Was looking forward to playing an highlander game... Then I read the games story... Thank fuck.

Its a shame too... Highlander should lend it self well to a video game series. Specially if we use Connor Mcloud. I mean, he's been alive for a while and I'm sure there's plenty of ground to be explored.

On the other hand... What do you mean by franchise... Surely a franchise has to have more than one film...

I always thought they could do a really good tragedy with Highlander. We already know that Conner wins the game, so how about we join a character who we know is destined to die?
Doesn't need to be all gloomy, just an interesting thought that sticks to the - ahem - canon.

I guess you could say that it's the endgame [http://www.thealmightyguru.com/Reviews/Highlander/Images/Highlander-EndGame.jpg] the highlander series. Heh, I crack myself up sometimes.

As I'm sure others will remind you, there is no Highlander 2.
Sure there was. It was called the Final Dimension, and while not stellar, it was far better than that abomination they tried to make with space immortals quite enjoyable.

Ummm...I'm gonna spoiler this gust in case.

{spoiler=Highlander-related canon]Duncan kills Connor in endgame. Even as far as the third second movie is concerned, Connor didn't actually win the Prize. The series amends this further, and Endgame makes sure we know it's not over. The Source seems to disagree, but if there's ever another propert of any sort in the highlander franchise, I'm pretty sure that abomination will be completely ignored.[/spoiler]

That movie never happened! There was never a Highlander sequel, my many therapists assure me! Never speak of this again!

Yeah, I'm kinda a sucker for slicin' and dicing, the "purer" the better. A highlander game (done well, mind) could have really hit the spot for me, but I do know that with it being a tie in, it's chances of being good were slim anyway, especially as every other spin off from the classic original turned out terrible.

It's been said to death, but it's still no less relevent;

"There can only be one"

Seriously, why must every protagonist be a MacLeod? We all know Conner was awesome (in the first film), but naming every other bastard immortal after him is just stupid. Unoriginal doesn't even begin to describe it.

That nitpick aside, the premise is something that the films should have been doing all along. Then again, the game would lose major points from me if the journeys, or levels, through time were bullshit flashback sequences. And why the need for magic? I know the series is has a mystical tone to it, but is magic necessary? Couldn't the character just learn new sword techniques?

I'm sure nintendo will pick it up, they're pretty big on things that won't die no matter how many videogames they're in.

There is no Hoghlander Cartoon, but there is a badass Highlander anime movie.

Also, for the love of god, go watch the director's cut version of Highlander 2. It's way better than the version that was released in theaters, what with all scenes being where they should be, all scenes only being the ones that should have been in the movie, etc. The studio are the ones who fucked it up, not the directors (sorta like Superman 2, only Highlander 2 director's cut isn't nearly as good as Superman 2 the Richard Donner cut). I'm not saying that the real version is a classic, but it is watchable, and even enjoyable.

For shame. I was looking forward to seeing The Spoony One review this game. It would've been hilarious.
Tell me about it. It would've also been a better investment than the Last Remnant.
