Ya I played for about 6 months duridng TBC did some raiding and then got bored and quit. Some of the people I played with tho had been playing since day 1 and are still playing now. I just don't know how people can play that for so long and not want to kill themselves.karpiel said:I stopped when TBC came out because I got bored
I am predicting that Blizzard will most likely redefine the MMO genre "yet again." They are one of the few developers that almost never outstay their welcome. By that, I mean they aren't the type of people who will put out "Gun Battle Slap Fight XVII", just to make some money. They have always seemed committed to not repeating themselves on the scale that EA or the bigger companies do, and to put out quality products. That, and they produced my favorite game of all time, Starcraft, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.Pyronox said:Past Blackwing lair it started going down the crapper. I played BC till 70, raided just a bit till TK, then just dumped that crap. It was getting redundant and frustrating and useless.
Anyway, if they make another MMO, it's either going after the people who are tired of WoW or everyone who don't/stopped playing WoW.
Blizzard is going to get a punch in the face after D3 and SC2 weather they realize it or not. They're going to have to be really careful. Also if they think the WoW formula is the way to go, think again.
I don't think a Starcraft MMO in Asia would necessarily be that popular, for the simple reason that you can't really become famous by playing an MMO. Sure you can be the bad kind of famous where everyone hates you, but that kind of fame is not to be found for a tournament player. A tournament player can expect universal adoration if they're good enough, and maybe even sexual "favors." I just don't see that kind of fame being prevelent in an MMO.The Shade said:One of the reasons WoW did so well was that Blizzard, the clever bastards that they are, built up the fanbase over the years with Warcraft 1-3. Already had a strong story and setting, and characters that people would be prepared to see again.
Surely someone at Blizzard will have noticed that by now.
If they're smart (and, even if you don't like WoW, their success has to make you admit that they have more than a few brains between 'em) they'll base their new MMO on one of their other series that already has a strong fanbase.
Diablo? Seems unlikely since D3 will play up the multi-player anyway.
Starcraft? Too obvious? Maybe not as obvious as you think. They'd have an instant mass market, especially out of Asia.
But, it's anyone's guess.
Guild Wars 1 had updated graphics compared to WoW. Wouldn't it be funny, though, if Blizzard and Anet are making Guild Wars 2?mattttherman3 said:Well it makes sense, wow is over 4 years old now, when Guild Wars 2 comes out, it will sell like crazy because it will have updated graphics, and of course, no monthly fee.
It will sell good but it won't sell better than WoW. It's pretty much impossible to make an MMO that sells better than WoW.mattttherman3 said:Well it makes sense, wow is over 4 years old now, when Guild Wars 2 comes out, it will sell like crazy because it will have updated graphics, and of course, no monthly fee.
I soiled myself. In the good way.SidVicious said:You know what it should be? Lost Vikings MMO. Norse mythology and shit. That would kick so much ass.
I'd play it."Gun Battle Slap Fight XVII"
Oh god I hope not.theCMNDER said:So... is this going to be WoW2??
Well I'll give you that. But the fact still stands that every MMO that has tried to copy the WOW formula (i.e. all of them) have pretty much failed to differing degrees (from EPIC fail to a more lingering, torturous fail). I think they know that if they try to make the lightning strick twice they will fail. The reason why Blizzard gets away with just 3 franchises is two-fold:Pyronox said:Well considering the fact Blizzard has been recycling the same things for 10 years now, I wouldn't expect something revolutionary. Especially if it has nothing to do with past blizzard franchises... that would make some fans that aren't used to anything that isn't D/S/W confused.matrix3509 said:I am predicting that Blizzard will most likely redefine the MMO genre "yet again." On the issue of the MMO, they should know by now that the only MMO to use the World of Warcraft formula successfully was World of Warcraft itself, and any other MMOs that try to copy it will fail miserably, as evidenced by every other MMO in existence.
I expect something completely new from Blizzard.
