I have a problem with chronic...migraines :)P). but seriously i do, to the point where my doctor has prescribed me Fiorinal pills that are actually very strong (3 makes me literally fucked up, and i weigh an easy 200-230 pounds). Unfortunately though, when the migraines/headaches are caused by something like a cold, the medicine doesnt work, so here is my thing. I've been dogged by a powerful all day which basically put me through a whole day of flaming skull syndrome. I tried my pills, i tried a warm shower and neither worked.

So here is the question. Does anyone know of any Homestyle cures for headaches/migraines, and please dont try to get me to do some ridiculous stupid crap, i would appreciate stuff that actually works.

Well...i'd say caffeine if you didn't suffer from migraines, but caffeine is probably the worst thing you could take if you do suffer from that. I used to suffer from bad migraines myself, and the doctor explained how caffeine at first is great, it constricts the blood vessels in your head, to reduce the throbbing and what not, but after it wears off they expand bigger than they were before and it hurts that much more...

just rest really...i'd suggest some illegal substances if you're into that, as my roommates swear by it, but i won't go further into that topic.

I seem to remember someone mentioning pea soup to me...but that might be hangovers. But Rusk might be on the right track. Sleep helps with a lot of things.

Have you tried decongestants, if its your sinuses that are the trouble that might help.

I would like to get more sleep, but unfortunately i seriously can't seem to find the time, between friends, games, school, homework (the more bullshitty school brought home) etc, etc, etc i usually don't get to bed till about 11 at least, sometimes 12 if i have work. I was meaning more immediately working solutions.

[EDIT] not to say that there isn't merit to sleeping.

[EDIT AGAIN] i think im gunna try and retire for the night, ill stay logged on, but i'll be asleep (or trying) i guess i could use it, ill post again if i find its too soon for me to be able to. Please keep giving me cures, i intend to write them down when the thread dies

I really feel for you man, so as shitty as it is: Perhaps cutting back on friends or gaming would be the thing to do in order for you to get the sleep you need. Games will be there when you wake up, and real friends will understand, but health is a ***** to 'get back' once it's gone downhill.

Water. No matter what they say, the best thing for a headache is a big glass of water.

Press against your temples really hard until the pain is gone (aside from the pain in the temples, you're the one causing that).

Well, these probably wouldn't work wonderfully for you but at my house we have two diffrent headache cures.

The first involves placing two fingers on your pineal gland (it between your eyes and up a little. A soft spot on the skull) and the base of your skull (just follow your spine up until it turns into skull. The spot is just below that). You apply a little bit of pressure on the two soft spots and shake your fingers slightly. You're also supposed to try and imagine an electrical arch passing between your two fingers. Continue for about a minute.

The second involves me. I talk people into ignoring pain (focus on other things, keep their mind active, calm them down. It's sort of a light hypnosis thing). The only problem is instead of ignoring the pain entirely this typically results in the pain being moved to a different part of the body where it hurts just as badly. The move typically goes: head > leg > shoulder > stomach > neck > head.

As you can probably tell, I live in a bit of a hippy household. If your not into that sort of stuff though I would suggest going to a steam room. Sit for a while, breath the steam in deeply, let yourself sweat a bit; you'll probably be alright in like 10 - 15 mintues.

Repeated head trauma.
Actually, I've heard that closing your eyes and gently rubbing them with the palm of your hand works well.

Depends on the sort of migraine really. Food Allergies are common, especially dairy or citrus.

If it's an eye-strain one, (feels like your skull is trying to push out of the front of your head) relax and get some natural light but at low intensity. Fresh air helps.
If it's a skull-crusher, something is using up all of the water in your system, so drink huge amounts. Also try and take some salt and glucose/sugar.
If it's back of the head pressure, that's usually stress, so sleep (or at least rest) cuts it out.
If it's coupled with cramps, take two pints of water and then throw your guts up.
If it's oversensitivity, cut out extra heat (take your shoes off, unbutton your shirt) and stop any caffeine or stress. Also retire to a dark room.

I get them a lot. :)

Edit : Oh, and Tigerbalm (available in a lot of pound shops) rubbed gently on your temples really helps.

Best run of recipies is bathe, drink lots and catch up on sleep.

I forgot about Tigerbalm.

It's near impossible to find in Australia, but it's awesome stuff for headaches, or pain of any kind.

I have horrible issue with chronic migraines myself, I would suggest

1. Eat small meals during the day, I find hunger headaches can become far worse quickly.

2. Stuff like soda can help at times when you first feel a light headache combined with smoking I find.(Clove's are the best I find as the eugenol helps numb you)

3. Take quick power naps when your able 5-10 minute naps and such

Also best advice, Is to always have a bottle of tylenol or excedrin migraine on you and take about 2 pills when you first feel a headache, I keep a bottle in my purse and in my car always for that reason helps out a lot if you can take care of the migraine when it first starts.

The hippy in me says Lavender the facist in me says a bottle of burbon! These evil brain cells have been acting out of line for years and must be executed one cell at a time. I suffer from a condition called allergic rhinitis which is basically like asthma of the nose I have sinus headaches, constant congestion and despite this my nose runs constantly making it extrely hard to get a job as my sniffing tends to sicken people.

At the moment the cure is worse than the disease as my sleep patterns seem to have been designed my MC Escher and I can hardly eat anything without crippling and ongoing stomach cramps. Oh and Im not allowed to give blood anymore.

This did rather turn into a rant sorry guys!

Caffeine or whiskey, but if your having chronic migraines maybe you should keep talking to your doctor about it and see what other meds are available to you.

Play a fantasticall weird free MMORPG called The Endless Forest. Google it. It's weird. And just romaing the woods is good for a headache, for me.

Obviously, if you've got real woods and it isn't too cold out, go into the real woods, breathe some fresh air, and sit by a river or something. Write, it relieves stress for me.
