I've got money to burn so I'm going to buy it when it comes out in the UK on Friday, regardless of the reviews.

My experience with reviews of shooters such as CoD, when they say 9/10, it really means 7.5 for me, but I'm still going to give this one a chance, even though it's going to be MP centric. TOO MANY MP GAMES GOD DAMN IT!

Yay! Red scare simulator!

I've seen the first mission. You see Koreans murder innocent civilians in front of their children. Probably would be an outcry over such a portrayal, had it been any country other than NK. Game developers love character assassinations of other nations.

I'm still cautious of the gameplay. If the gameplay is no good, then I'm not going to finish it, simple as that.

I'm not trolling...it just DOES look stupid. Those review scores are typical for a CoD clone, so until people start saying otherwise, that's what I'm going to assume it to be.
Medal of Honor was a CoD clone and it didn't get anywhere near a 9
But Medal of Honor came out first.

Looks good, glad I took the plunge and bought the pre-order on Steam, now I also have a free copy of Metro 2033 to give away ad well.
If you haven't played it, don't give it away just yet, it's fantastic.

Good news there, i was a little worried because of all the negativity around here, so much I tried to ignore it but I've seen people reference it in other threads. What do they actually hate about it? Because I wonder whether this is misdirected rage here. A backlash against modern warfare games at the wrong time and on the wrong game. Save it for modern warfare 3 people, even if it fails, homefronts trying to be different.

They won't say it looks stupid, they will comment on how the story is unrealistic because their brain can't comprehend what "fiction" is unless it is scifi.
I think I speak for everyone who says Homefront's story is unrealistic when I say we expected it to be realistic because they told us to. They've been hammering the IT CAN HAPPEN YOU GUYS keys since the internet uttered its first 'uh what'? In fact, if it only took place in an alternate reality instead of THE FUTURE YOU GUYS I wouldn't be harping on it.

Well, not as much anyway. It's still based on the premise that in a war in which a technologically advanced cultural monopoly invades a small country and destroys it culture, the US would be the invaded. But at least it could be based on a different concept of the US.

I'm still actually thinking of buying it now (which is mega rare because I tend to wait years before I get my money - hell, this week I bought Mass Effect 2 and I think I bought it early) just so I can see the multiplayer as it was meant to be played, because I'm sure that in a few months it'll be a wasteland and out of the score of 'realistic' FPS this is the only one taking Battlefield's lead instead of CoD's.

Then perhaps you'll be more reassured in knowing I used the term 'generic' in regards to a game with guns... and war... and first person shooting... and cover based combat... and COD controls... and forced vehicle sections... and set piece events...and regenerating health... and campaign lengths not worth $60... and a focus on online multiplayer...

Fuck it, it's Call of Duty: Homefront.

(Well that IS a joke, but this game is very much generic and I doubt many would deny that. You're an exception. That's not something to be happy about.)
What I mean is FPS's are about are varied as they can get, while RTS's and RPG's are the ones which are generic.
So much more could be done with these genres but its often the same thing over and over. Almost all RPG's consist of building a base, gathering resources and crushing the enemy base. I haven't heard of many RPG's that don't focus on leveling up and acquiring more and more powerful items and fighting enemies which get gradually tougher as you level up.

Of course, you could say the same about shooters, but compare Half-Life to Call of Duty, compare Left 4 Dead to Bioshock, compare Doom to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Now, compare practically any RPG with another and they will be even more similar than the shooters, with the only real difference being the setting.

With regard to Homefront itself the developers are at least considering things which others are not, to me that is worthy of merit.

Sorry, it's gonna need a 9.8+ rating before I try picking up YET ANOTHER war FPS.

Shouldn't people stop trolling? Some people here are calling it generic and a Call of Duty clone by only looking at the trailer. Play the game already.
Sorry, I don't have the money. Nor does the game have a demo. Thus, I'll call it a CoD clone because that's what the trailer (which is supposed to sell the game to me) has told me.

Both tout the "realism and plausible" banner./// When has cod ever touted itself as realistic.
Both use America's enemies as the game enemies./// So America should only ever be the enemy?
Both make no sense in narrative./// At least Homefront actually tries to explain itself.
Both involve America being invaded, hurt, and portrayed as the victim or in the "right"./// This game has been in developement since early 2008, before MW2 was even announced.
Both try the "but this main character is _______ so its deep and cerebral" and "totally not "america fuck yeah!" routes./// What?
Both rely on multiplayer./// Now I know you're getting desperate.

If it looks like a duck, feels like a duck, and quacks like a duck then its a duck.
The answers to your questions are in the quote.

Wait, was your other post a complement or a comment? Because now you have got me confused.

Meh... I might try the demo when it comes out, but, for the time being, I'm still not really all that interested in it.

It was supposed to be a complement. You basically were able to call the trolls out before they got here.

Oh, so sorry about that then, I must have sounded like a real jerk for calling you out. Most people that have quoted me so far have just tried to be negative so I thought that was what your post was. So sorry about the confusion.
