The one exception would be the Wii...but I wouldn't recommend buying one of those unless you REALLY like Mario, Metroid, and Zelda. One of which is an FPS , albeit far more original than traditional shooters.
I don't like to intervene, but I made my complaint bold for emphasis. Metroid is not an FPS. Sure it has a trilogy of an FPS offshoot, but it has more non-FPS games than it does FPS games. I't did even start as an FPS.

Now OT for Homefront, I will say I am looking forward to the game and I do not personally feel that it is the "Hell Yeah 'Merica! Look at all th' cool shit and guns we 'ave! Fuck those socialist and communist bastards, shoot 'em, shoot 'em DEAD!" game it has been claimed to be. I can say, as a citizen of the U.S. myself, it is nice to see a game where the tables are turned and Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty aren't riding a Bald Eagle painted red, white, and blue carrying several bombs to save those silly Socialist from the cruel Muslim Terrorist hands.

Sorry, it's gonna need a 9.8+ rating before I try picking up YET ANOTHER war FPS.

Sorry but as opposed to all the peace negotiation FPSs coming out this year? How else can a First Person Shooter be based around war and not have the controversy hammer thrown on their sales?

I'm not trolling...it just DOES look stupid. Those review scores are typical for a CoD clone, so until people start saying otherwise, that's what I'm going to assume it to be.
Typical review scores for CoD clones, like...

OT: Well, damn, that's awesome to know. Those are some really solid scores.

What's that? An overmarketed generic FPS gets a 9/10?

Stop the presses, I wanna get off.
Thats actually a damn good score for a new IP.

Halo and Call of Duty will ALWAYS get a 9 or higher, because they're Halo and Call of Duty.

And whenever I see someone use the term 'generic' in regards to any game that features guns, a little more faith in this site dies in me.
Then perhaps you'll be more reassured in knowing I used the term 'generic' in regards to a game with guns... and war... and first person shooting... and cover based combat... and COD controls... and forced vehicle sections... and set piece events...and regenerating health... and campaign lengths not worth $60... and a focus on online multiplayer...

Fuck it, it's Call of Duty: Homefront.

(Well that IS a joke, but this game is very much generic and I doubt many would deny that. You're an exception. That's not something to be happy about.)

Take a day in, drink some tea and stay in bed. Im sure you get rid of that jerkbug in no time.

Anyways..cheese...well ANYWAYS. I hope this game will slaughter COD and BF and leave nothing but sobbing fanboys.

Homefront gives me too much of that Turning Point: Fall of Liberty vibe. It looks much more promising to be sure, and the reviews seems to be supportive of that, but I think if I buy it, by the end I'll look something like:

Mature gaming is mature.

Crass and stupid storyline told by dick waving idiots that know only one way to tell a story. Utterly vapid. What a shame. The MP might be quite good aside from this ridiculous immature story mode bollocks.
You're a big fan of gratuitous swearing, aren't you?

OT: Interesting. I thought this game sounded like it had potential, and seeing it get good review scores reinforces that notion. From the Escapist articles I've read, both the singleplayer and multiplayer sound good - but I'll have to get used to what sounds like a very, very fast pace if I do get it.

The touted "emotional" aspect of the game is fully present. Some scenes are genuinely difficult to watch, and they're handled well enough that they don't seem disrespectful to the subject matter.
That subject matter being an Imperialistic Yellow Man caricature invading an impoverished US of oor rah A?
The subject matter of war, fighting an invading force and the horrors therein.
I'm glad you've also played the game enough to see that they're a caricature of North Koreans, though! It makes your opinion incredibly valid.

Except that you haven't, and that fact is made abundantly clear by your accusation of caricaturism in the first place.

Unless you consider the fact they shout in Korean (god forbid a Korean force do that) they don't do anything that would mandate an accusation of "caricatured Yellow Men". Yes, they're seen doing some pretty awful things, but nothing that wouldn't happen (or hasn't already happened) in a situation in which a large imperial force invades a weakened nation.

If you're desperate to find something to criticise about the enemy and the way they're depicted, it would be that they're not a particularly original enemy force. They're effectively just Nazis from Korea. But that doesn't make the actions depicted any less horrific.

Besides, without wanting to spoil anything, not all of the scenes in question depict atrocities committed by the enemy force.

A simple way to prevent most such so-called "trolling" is not to have anyone in this thread defending the "realism" of the backstory. Long as people can control themselves we're golden.
Actually, if that one quote about the emotional impact of the game is to be believed, it seems the story is actually quite good.

Wait, what? I didn't think I had to present any actual statistics showing that there are more games released in the FPS genre every year than any other.
Actually, in terms of sheer number of releases or sales, I'm pretty sure Popcap-type puzzle games outnumber FPSes.

I'm rather concerned about buying this as a MP game simply because, after BO, I havent the energy or the inclination to spend days and days playign a game just get skill enough to compete and thus enjoy the gaem. BO was horrendous and if HF has a system similar to killstreaks (I can't remember how Frontlines worked) then forget it. I'm not interested in paying £40 to be someone else's punchbag while I get to experience none of the cool stuff the game has to offer.
Some information on the multi can be found here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/previews/8573-Hands-On-Homefront-Multiplayer]. Sound like your kind of thing?

Thanks that's actually a lot more like it.

So you choose what kit youd like to have beforehand, but in order to access it you spend your BP's. The key point being that BP's are not solely earned through kills - and they persist if you die (confirm?).
I think you've got it, except that I'm unsure as to whether they persist if you die or not (think I missed it if they mentioned it in the article).

That, combined with the Battle Commander thing, makes it sound like an interesting experience.

1. it has been touted as "realistic". Why? Look at the trend of brown war shooters. Since when was the last time you saw a shooter without brown haze over everything that wasn't made in 2011? And not TF2? Not very many huh?

2. No, but it would be nice to fight someone else other than russian communist terrorists. That is like all the enemies of America excluding the Nazis and red coats rolled into one. North Korea isn't much better. The world doesn't revolve around America, and there is a large political world for them to muck around in but they all resort to the same "enemies of americuh and freedomz".

3. That is certainly being generous. Obviously "North Koreans are secretly wizards" is attempting to explain the plot.

4. MW2 wasn't the first COD game nor was it the first modern warfare game. Ever wonder why there is "2" in the title?

5. How? If they have so many other similarities, now they tout multiplayer? With a bad story? Hmm, i wonder what that sounds like.
1. Cod has never touted itself as realistic
2. Koreans haven't been used alot.
3. I can tell you haven't even bothered to even look at the story.
4. So every modern game after cod is a clone, got it!
5. They have even stated that campaign is emotional and has depth to it and have focused on it the most.

P.S. I don't think I'm going to reply back to you because this thread has gotten out of control. When I first heard about this game, I actually looked into it. I'm only wasting my time with people like you who haven't even played and just spam hate on the forums. Just wait till it comes out to judge it and then maybe I'll reply to your posts.

It's funny, MW comes out with a horrible story and gameplay and then this clone comes out and does the same thing.

Yet MW gets praise, and this game gets bagged on? Lolwut

I would not be as disappointed if the game had Russians invading, or something like that, but Korea just doesn't have the forces required to do something like that. It seems like developer thinks that military power is equal to amount of bullshit politicians say... but then it'd be Poland that was invading the whole world if that is true.

If anyone can confirm this, i'd really like to know. If they don't persist that's a major put off for me because it's then no better than the killstreak system. I really hope that's not the case because no force on this earth could convince me to play another game like that; the weaker players are just cannon fodder for the better players who then drop nukes and napalm onto their opponents. WARNING RCXD IN YOUR AREA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ARG!!!!!!
They would have to persist through death because vehicle purchases with BPs happen while respawning

As a fervent supporter of stories that at least make a bit of sense even in a cinematic campaign, this praising of a horribly non-sensical story makes me want to vomit. What a disgrace to the FPS genre.
Disgrace to the FPS Genre? Thats going way too far.

Two points:

1) I never play jingoist campaigns.
2) I am bored with the generic FPS.

In my preference, Homefront is a bad game.

Well, on these forums, BOTH get bagged on equally.
