Same thing with me, except it's Birthright instead of Homeworld.

relic is developing a homeworld 3... or so the rumor goes.
Early 2008 THQ/Relic aquired the IP for HomeWorld from Sierra/Vivendi.
in November of the same year they released heavy handed hints in an interview that they are 'definatly looking into' another home world game now that the 'IP made its way home'

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/relic-definitely-looking-at-homeworld-3

So it is highly likely that we will see a Homeworld 3...
fingers crossed, hope high.
Although I would dearly like a new one I have very little hope for one. I remember searching high and low for Homeworld 2 I eventually found it crammed in a little corner of a media play that was going out of buisness. And that was only a few months after it was released. Although in the same instant I dont want them to make a new one because I am sure they would butcher it.
It was being published by Sierra entertainment which was being bought out if I am not mistaken. As for Relic they are doing perfectly fine financially, and they are now the ones holding the rights to the Homeworld IP.

Thank god that they got it before Activision got their grubby little paws all over it. Then we would never see a sequel.

I don't know. Homeworld was the second best RTS ever made (behind Command & Conquer, and until Company of Heroes reduced HW to the third best). That surely counts as a gold mine. If anything, they would have commissioned a certain other RTS developer to make Homeworld 3.

As much as I SUCKED at Homeworld 1&2, I loved both of them. It's a damn shame I couldn't play them all the way through, too, because the story looked like it was impressive.

I saw this game once in a used bookstore, when I was very little. I regret never buying it, I truely do. I had just gotten my first computer and was learning how to use it, but whenever I think about how I missed out on this, I kick myself for it. It looks awesome and just reading the back of the box made me want to learn more of the story.

The game was originally supposed to follow the Battlestar Galactica IP but they never were able to obtain the rights, and thank Gabe they didn't, Homeworld is miles better.

1/2 of me really wants a new Homeworld, but the other half is telling me that if they do; it will come with all the additions of today's game design... ie: Everything is Black, Brown or Grey, accompanied by bright bloom effects.

And I think that where it is, as one of the great games of all time will only be brought down by another sequel.

I love Homeworld, and can't remember how many times I've played it. I even helped make mods for it, Kadeshi mod for one. Also, I made my own mod, heh, based on Zelda. I even wrote a pretty extensive back-story to it. Kith Hyrule.

Just finished it again,

I may try out some mods sometime, anyone know any?

('cept the turanic raider one, with the mothership being very phallic)

Phhh, not remember that game, I own both of them...now a game you won't remember is Nexus the Jupiter Incident, now that was a space RTS that probably inspired Eve's space battles.

At the time of Nexus' release EVE was already released if I am not mistaken. EVE online is not a very new MMORPG at all. Anyways Nexus was a different game altogether. The main focus in Nexus was to focus more on smaller battles while giving the player much more control over a ship's actions.

But alas, here come the tears (of Karan, music joke) we will most likely never see a game like this again, Relic and/or Sierra no longer own the Homeworld franchise, hear rumours of a third one, but unless its either made by the same developers as the past games or the best game in recent years (oh wait, its the same thing, :p), I won't buy it because it will be NO good.
The original team has the IP again, and they are "very interested" in making a third. http://kotaku.com/5098210/homeworld-3-theres-always-that-chance-say-relic

I did that same thing with StarCraft BW. This sounds like an interesting game, I might go look into it.

Homeworld is the first PC game to make me stand up in my chair and pump my arms in the air at the end. I was a little choked up at the ending movie and song, too.

The band Yes doing the Homeworld soundtrack? YES PLZ MOAR

I wasn't able to get past the ptutorial where it said to destroy the enemy fleet with tactics. I was twelve, and I didn't know what tactics were. I tried flanking the ships and attacking them from the side, because they were all in a line and it made the most sense, but that didn't count as tactics. Can someone tell me what I was supposed to do?

home world was great and each level was a challenge I captured every multibeam frigate I could. It had the best game manual of all time listing every ship it was thick enough to smack people with but not to thick for a causal read. Multi player kinda sucks since it just came down to who brought the most guns to the other persons mothership first. The use of <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRMz8fKkG2g>Adagio for Strings is very appropriate

I wish Gametap wasn't retarded and supported 64 bit operating systems. I've been trying to find a copy for awhile now.
