Thanks for the names of the youtubers, I knew of Hutch and Seananners (god I hate his voice).
I'd like to add a couple more tips.
Ha, I'm also not a fan of Seananners's voice... it's a bit nasal. Woody's Gamertag is the same.

Definately check out Thunder though, he's by far the most entertaining commentator on Youtube.

And punch Ken Burton in the balls.

Pretty much everything has already been said but I think that the main points are:

1)Use the edges of the map. Avoid the centre as much as possible
2)Get comfortable with a weapon/set so that you know how best to use them
and
3)Work as a team with friends. Most people online play on the their own and run around with Rambo, whereas if you work with a mate or two and communicate. You will dominate

[if it takes no skill then how am i failing consistently!
Sigh... pay no attention to these people.

It does require some skill to be good at MW2, the problem with the game is that there are certain perks and tactics like Commando, Grenade Launchers and double shotguns built in that allow people to get cheap kills using less skill.

I would not recommend using them because then you will do well, but you will never get better at the game and when Black Ops comes out you'll be screwed, it is already confirmed NOT to have Akimbo and Commando.

MW2 is like Killer Instinct in that your excellent one round and max everything out with some nasty overpowered toys and the next round you get creamed, so it can be annoying.
This is so true. It's so hard to do consistently well in MW2, some douchebag always pisses on your parade.

PLAY BAREBONES. If you aren't playing barebones then you're just a *****. Always use ninja pro. Tactical controls. Aim before you [LT) down the sights.

Find a Mod for single player, its called PeZBOTS, I don't know if its available for MW2 but i know that it is for CoD4. Its just a simple bot pack. It should help you though, regardless.

Firstly, just keep practicing. That's the most important piece of advice. Secondly, remember that half of any FPS is luck - some games I play I'll finish with 30+ kills and <5 deaths, some games I'll finish <10 kills and 20+ deaths. Thirdly, try (gradually) increasing your look sensitivity. The default is 'Medium', which is rated 2/10 - train yourself up (by first trying 3/10 for a week or so, then 4/10 for another week, and so on) and you'll eventually be able to comfortably use 'Insane' (10/10). This makes it much easier to track targets and allows you to react faster than you perhaps currently are.

THAT^
but also try to take note of the names of people around you. Take note of where they are going. When they die, their names appear on the kill feed. If they have been sniped, look for sniper spots near the direction they went. If they have been killed by another weapon (a rusher), either take a position to try and counter that person when they inevitably run at you. In other words, camp for a sec, because the person who just killed your friend is almost guaranteed to look for more kills in that direction.
