I'm a member on the Coheed & Cambria forums, and my username there was Gunslinger (based on their song 'Gravemakers & Gunslingers')I started putting my avatar/signature as Dragons, so every called me Dragon, I then asked my mod friend to change it to DerekTheMagicDragun, the mispelling of Dragon based on my old username.
Back in the '80s, there was a karate/ninja thing going on, and many of my friends were interested in martial arts, and hence also about human physiology. Solar plexus was one thing that was tossed around.
So, when we were starting our first dungeons & dragons sessions, my character needed a name, so I picked solar for my cleric, as that sounded nice. The name stuck, and I used that for years. Later on, when I started hanging on IRC, it shortened to 'sol', which was - obviously - always taken. On ircnet #coders it was common for people to include their demoscene group name on their nicks, and - due to the 11 character irc nickname limitation on ircnet back then - I added _hsa to the nick as short for 'hysteria', my demoscene group at the time.
Not surprisingly, that wasn't taken. I've used it since in several places.
Sort of sad that so many people have derived their screen names from something that's really mainstream and has happened within the last 10 years. Are most people here really so young?

It's a bad joke that morphed into a story that stemmed from boredom. I really think no one care where my name comes from and I think I've explained it at least 5 different ways at this point. Sorry but if you want to see them all you can root through my 1950+ posts.

Because when I first got Steam I was trying to put in a name that was cool, and wasn't taken, so I kept changing for hours and hours and for some stupid reason, Sketchy stuck.
Although, I have refined it now, so it's Sketchkov (Syndicate, cookie to whoever gets the reference).

I got my name idea after playing Psychonauts. (Hats off to you if you get the reference.)

My gamertag is Korey Von Doom, and I was looking for a new name and just saw silver surfer, plus I rain doom down upon my enemies =D, and of course Korey is my first name
Basically, when I was setting up Xbox Live for the first time, the one I was planning on was taken (i think it had the word maniac in it or something like that, I don't remember), and I tried for something along the same lines. After a bit of fiddling, LackingSanity was born. Interesting as hell, I know.

Mine comes from a story I'm writing. The main characters name is Nekoi Hiokans. She's kinda like a weird alter-ego of me, but just more badass...also, Neko is japanese for cat, so it's kinda a pun on how my friends call me kitty.
