I had my first PC when I was 9. One day I saw that there are video games for it so I bought a few and I installed them. I fell in love and I've been in love ever since. One of the first games was Worms Armageddon.

I still have the latest patched version installed and I still play it all those years later :)
That's the magic of PC gaming.

I was a kid in the early 90s with no money.
The systems in the house were an Atari 800 and 2600, and a 286 PC.

The 286 played a lot better games.

//Didn't own a "current generation" console until the Saturn

Though now that I'm an adult with money, I pretty much own any system that I want.
Way too many good console games to ignore them.

I'm not. I'll get into PC gaming when rigs that preform better than consoles cost less than $1000.
Until I'm happy being able to play any game released, guaranteed.

Consoles 4 Life!!!

...although, there is a sound in the air. The USS TIPPY is getting dangerously close to a group of rocks but...that....that music. That lovely voice is drawing me towards shore. Such...such a beautiful song...

Oh XCOM 2, you little mynx you. You teased me with XCOM on the console and now to seal the deal, I gotta put a ring on that finger in the form of a PC.

If you're still here after my stupid little story, I have been a console gamer forever with no real interest in PC gaming until recently. My current PC just exploded and so I currently have people helping me figure out how much a XCOM 2 player would cost me.

Maybe XCOM 2 will be it or maybe it'll be my gateway drug. Only time will tell...

It's weird, because I was playing PC games long before I felt the industry of PC gaming, probably because I was playing on ancient hand-me-down systems like the Commodore 128. Had a library of games but it was an experience just like a console (and at the time, just as silly and glitchy).

When I was a teenager my buddies dragged me to an internet cafe, something I'd always thought was, well, where you went to get online. It was a small, dark, smoker-filled, Korean-owned place and just about everyone in the room was playing this FPS arena game called Counter Strike. That was a new worldly experience.

Omitting the monitor (console doesn't come with a TV screen), an intelligent custom build at $1000 can be considerably powerful. For reference, the backbone of my PC is from 2010, was average at the time and less than $1000; it will run Witcher 3, GTA V and Fallout 4. You don't need to spend a load of money, just very specifically when it comes to PC parts. Retail PCs will kill your bank account and are often configured (and designed) stupidly.

1989, my dad started working as a PC Tech, building and servicing PC's and he brought one home. I started learning from him how to build them and work with DOS so I could get some games to work, also because I enjoyed it. First games were Sierra adventures like King's Quest and Space Quest, and they taught me how to type.
26 years later I'm a PC tech and have been gaming on them all that time. Add 4 years to that and I've been gaming for 30 because of Nintendo.

I had NES clone up until mid-90-es, then, around 2000, I got a PC. Why PC? Because my family had very small income and had to pick 1 (one) device to be used for all sorts of stuff with games not even on the list. Afterwards I never saw any reason to even consider spending money on a console - they were simply useless garbage to me. As they are now.

I'd had a pc from about 2000 but it was just for making music and I wasn't really that interested in gaming at the time. Then I went back to university in about 2007 and bought a new PC for that. I had played 40K as a kid but just got really bored painting the fuckers. Then I saw Dawn of War. The rest is history.

Well not really through anything special. I had a xbox for a while and it's a lot of fun to play with, but at some point i just needed a pc anyway. For school and internet and stuff. No reason to waste additional money on a console i don't need. Additionally we had a pretty large household when i was young, so it was nice getting to play games in my room in peace for myself instead of the living room were other people would constantly barge in, or want to use Tv or maybe just read a book in quiet.

For me it was the late 90's with an old PC running windows 3.1, and most importantly it was MINE and had Transport Tycoon: Deluxe Edition. The rest, as they say, is history.

I've been playing games on PC since the mid eighties. Don't remember what my first one was.

I will never, ever be part of the "PC gaming master race," however.

I didn't... It was forced upon me through educational games, flash games, Lemmings, and The Oregon Trail...

Other than that, I see it as the step-cousin from my gaming perspective...

that's been the case for years now...literally.

pick any of the popular pc friendly websites and they'll have tons of rigs listed for 6-700 dollars that plays anything modern on ultra (in all but a handful of cutting edge games which you might have to turn one setting down).

pcpartpicker is my personal favorite, and seeing as you are from the US that'd be a great place to start, but honestly out of all my pc gaming friends I only know maybe 2 that have rigs that cost over a grand, and that's because they are enthusiasts, not exactly looking for the "bang for your buck" stuff.

OT: I occasionally played diablo and age of empires and sims growing up, but those games weren't exactly intensive on the requirements, it wasn't until I was 17 that I really hopped in and started looking at parts to build my own rig, and I've been going on 7 years now on this cyborg next to me (I call it a cyborg because I've swapped out parts multiple times now so it's not recognizable from the original build)

Wow. Everyone here is just like "I've been doing it since the day that I started gaming", and I got into it because I was lazy.

I'm not even kidding. When I was in high school, all I did after classes was just be on my computer, watching Youtube and playing games on my console, and I started playing less and less on my console because it was too much of a hassle to change out the disk everytime that I wanted to play something different. So, I got my first gaming PC, and it was shit, and I hated it, so I upgraded as soon as I could. And now I have a gaming PC.

Back in the mid 90s i guess you could say I got into PC gaming with games like Oregon Trail, Lemmings, Jet fighter III, and Spectre. Another personal favorite of mine was Chuck Yeager's Air Combat Simulator.

Though to be honest I didn't really get into PC gaming until about 2 years ago. Back in 2013 my laptop died and I needed a new computer. However, the new console generation was fast approaching and I knew that sooner or later I would need a new console as well. So in the end I decided it would be more cost effective to get a gaming PC rather than a laptop and console separately.

I never really owned a console. Couldn't afford one back in the day, and a PC was easier to get, so...I guess that's it. More or less, at least.
