This one is also good, I think, for saying something more complex.

This looks pretty extensive.
I tried that one, but ctrl-F yielded no results for many of my chosen words, or even synonmyms :S

Thanks, though

I thought it would be cute to leave her a little message in the tongue, but I can't seem to make any sense of the dictionaries I've found online.
Okay, well, so far, I've managed to find that "meleth" is love (but it's apparently pronounced "mehl"), "le" is you, and "im" is I. Give me some time to figure out how to put that together...

In the meantime, just as a far-away fallback, "Nalyë melmenya" means "You are my love" in Quenya.

Are you thinking what I'm thinking B2?

OT: All I know is how to say "open". Which I guess has it's uses... if you know what I mean.
Bel'lon, or something like that, was it not?
Except that's Dwarven, not Sindarin. As the dialogue - in the films, at least - said. No clue if it's the same in the book or not. Probably is.
It's the password into Moria, but I thought they mentioned it was made by elves, or was old elven magic from when elves and dwarves got along.
Wait...that was "mel'lon." And it meant "friend," not "open."

It was Elvish of some kind, though.

The english-sindarin side of this one is actually helping, I'm piecing it together :D

I just looked up the movie dialogue, and you're right. They said "Elvish". Which is odd, I still remember it differently in execution. But I'm not finding my DVD just to check that the movie had a screw-up.

Glad to help. It only took a few seconds' Googling. Your piecing it together will be the real contribution, due to the disagreements between sources here. I'd suggest asking anyone who might know Sindarin that you know personally as well, because the web is sometimes unreliable about language.

I can find forever as either 'for eternity', which is 'an uir', or 'for a long time', which is 'anann'.

My bad. I guess i'm the only one who wants a woman thats been around the block a few times, instead of a nice sweet girl who learns elvish in her spare time.

EUREKA!! Thanks to Silva's pdf link, I have now assembled the correct phrase!

Pul-nín melethril anann, nín meleth

I had to sub in some synonyms, so it translates to "Be my lover for a long time, my love", but the intent is the same.

Thanks all, my girlfriend is going to love this :D

Dude, calm down. She's not a complete nut, she's just having a LOTR phase at the moment and I thought this would be neat to do. She's not one of those smelly chubby girls that take this stuff seriously :p

Hehe, i was considering putting a smily face on the end of that post but decided against it. Don't take my comments serious, mate. I meant them in a half jokingly way. No offence meant.

My girlfriend is a geek. That's why I love her (well, one of many many reasons, but that's a story for another day)
And probably Hustler, but moving on......

Best I can do for you.

EDIT: Seems you already got it solved.

Good luck man, live long and prosper. (That guy was an elf, right?)
