How do I SHUT THEM UP?!

Okay long story short

Back in September of last year a guy I know got a new game called "Halo Reach"

He was really excited about it and hyping it up because "dude, like, it has JETPACKS!"

I played it a bit

My first comment... "These jetpacks handle a heck of a lot like the ones in Tribes"

...and now here we are
nearing half a year later

every time I mention anything having to do with video games AT ALL
"durr hurr hurr, well it's not like TRIBES now is it?!" *makes stupid nerdy laugh and tries to imitate trollface*

...so yeah, they just won't shut up about Tribes and claim I'm obsessed with it (...which I'm not, I'm obsessed with Armored Core) just because I made one comment a long time ago

(Note: My friend played both and agrees with me, but will never admit to it because he doesn't want to deal with the whiny brat him either)

So I ask you my intelligent escapists!
How do I shut this idiot halo fan-troll up?
because it's getting annoying, and I would just be the worse person if I punched him in the face (despite how many people want me to)

...also

Why the heck WERE the jetpacks so over-hyped?
all I see people use is Sprint and Armor Lock

EDIT: I'm starting to think I should have posted this in the advice forum

[sub] makes it smaller, which is what I think you're trying to do.

OT: Unuh uh. Get new friends (If he is one), hit him a bit and tell him to back down because you know where he lives, and his gran. Then produce a dove from your sleever.

..
Yeah, ok, not the last bit, but I say (Seeing as I have no info about who's saying what and how they're regarded) just get him out of your group of friends and isolate him.
Or, you know, retort with scathing wit and embarrass him. That works.

Though more information would gelp.

The jet-packs were pretty much the only thing remotely interesting for me in Halo: Reach. I play it at my friends' houses all the time, and one of my colleagues and I enjoy having mid-air swordfights. As for your situation, I have no idea how to shut up a troll short of rage-quitting from life, and that would be bad.

I did find a picture of Duke Nukem killing all the Spartans from Reach... heh heh

But what I'm going for is a picture of Mercury (the assassin from Tribes) killing Master Chief

1: Physical violence is an option, nothing to rough though.

2: Because jetpacks are cool. I myself preferred evade.

If you want to take the mature route, just say "Dude, I'm sick of all this Halo vs Tribes jokes. Get over it, or gtfo."

Then I would suggest you try out Tribes... (it has 3 free demos, multiplayer, single player arena, and single player assassination levels) I honestly haven't played it in a long time but I mean this with all seriousness- It's an FPS, built entirely around jetpacking

...to the point where the only people who run are people with sniper rifles and speed packs, and even that's rare

so yeah, from me to you

if you like the jetpacks try it out

...if you don't care about jetpacks and just want flight fight

try...

Ace Combat, Armored Core, Marvel vs Capcom 2 (air juggles EVERYWHERE), and arguably DBZ fighters

just saying

oh and thanks for the advice!

There is no way. Everytime I try to avoid playing Halo all I get is "Dude, it's HALO!"

No reason, just that I should like Halo. I'm with you, I don't see why it's so overhyped. Any game where you have to empty a mag and THEN smack someone to kill them is just stupid.

I said nearing half a year

and he's not really my friend so much as he's the annoying bratty teenager/adult that you can't get to go away no matter what you try and is friends with all your friends (yeah, he's a prick who's 18 and acts 12... right down to breaking my stuff when I kill him in Kirby Air Ride [which last I checked is PART OF THE GAME])

That's because the Duke is just awesome, he doesn't have time for space marines.

Deviant Art maybe? That place can be scary sometimes, but you might find it there.

From what I've heard about Tribes, shouldn't he have taken what you said as a compliment?

Anyway. Just tell him, in no uncertain terms, that he is being a complete arse. If he doesn't stop after that, he's evidently taking it all way too seriously and you should just stop talking about games to him.

Well, it is alot like Tribes, except tribes did it better. Skiing!

As for dealing with your friend, just don't laugh at the joke ever and give him weird looks. Like he's just an idiotic moron. Try the one raised eyebrow look. Works well for me/on me.

I once had a friend who kept poking me, i warned him "poke me again and i'll kick you in the nuts" He poked me again. The next 5 minutes he was in a ball on the ground. "I told you what would happen."

Felt kind of bad, but it was funny at the same time.

Now I kinda wanna see Halo vs Painkiller

...just a random thought

and yeah that's what I get too, I prefer TF2 and MNC for multiplayer shooters

also these are the same guys that bashed any game I had that had shields in it because "DUDE! Like, the shields don't regenerate by themselves or absorb all incoming damage!"

...because apparently the concept of and energy shield only absorbing ENERGY attacks, while your armor absorbs the kinetic blows; is too much for their brains to handle

they just want you to be able to tank a crap ton of damage, win the 1v1 fight, then get all your health back in time for the next encounter

How do you shut them up? err...

...stuff like this is why I don't discuss video games (in real life) with anyone who owns a Microsoft console. Too much risk involved. Just avoid the topic, I'd say.
