Ya know. I have never understood how that works for people. I mean unless you are happy laying there with dirty hands and a tissue full of baby batter lying next to you.
I always have to get up and clean off, wash hands et cetera. So by the time I do that and crawl back to bed I am wide awake again. It sucks.

men get sleepy from sex, it's a fact. (seriously)

Fantasize. And NO, I don't mean it like that.

Think about stuff. Books you've read, games you've played, movies you've seen.
Anything imaginative or interesting. Thinking about it and imagining things happening around it shuts out the worlds around you, leaving you with nothing but your own thoughts, which gradually fade away into dreams. I've found that this also helps prevent nightmares, as your thoughts before sleep influence your dreams.

Start thinking of complex logic problems. I bore myself to sleep that way.
those are the things that give me a 3 day insomnia.

OT:i put a 15 minute timer on tv, and put some lights on because i'm to intriqued by darkness.
(i find myself making long night walks whenever i see the moon)

Read a book, preferably non-fiction as it exhausts the mind faster.

I wouldn't advise listening to music of any kind, but if you must then these crafty Texans do a decent job: http://www.myspace.com/starsofthelid.

Pillow over head to block out whatever light in the morning and slightly deafen surroundings.

Then that is it, no pillow underneath (even with the option), and I'll sleep anywhere, as long as something is over my head I'm happy.

I read, you have to get into the habit of reading before going to sleep, and then you'll only have to read a few pages before you feel sleepy.

Slowly because I think too god damn much.
Exact same problem here. I end up lying in bed trying to suppress any kind of thought. Doesn't work, some always manage to sneak in.

Because as soon as you manage it, you think 'I can actually do it!' and realise what you're doing. And thus the cycle repeats :p

Usually, I don't.

Even when I'm exhausted.
It's kind of a problem I have.
Insomnia?

I've always wondered, do Insomiacs feel tired but can't sleep, or do they never feel tired, ever? Cus the last one would sure be useful, even if you had to force yourself to rest once and again

Exactly! And a lot of the time, I start thinking about something without realising it, then catch myself out, feel like a fool and try and keep my thoughts quiet. And then I just get uncomfortable in my sleeping position and have to move just as I'm drifting off to sleep. I'm so jealous of people who can just fall asleep near instantly.

it's all about technique.
but then again it is always better to have sleep problems when the girlfriend is over/over at her place.

besides, helps both people sleep better!
