How do you feel about circumcision?

It's a choice between amputating a part of the body, or simply washing it, and when that choice is made by your parents before you're young enough to decide for yourself... Ugh, it's a horrible practice.

I'm just glad the US is one of the only places where this is so common.

There is absolutely no reason to.
And fucking aesthetics is NOT a valid reason to chop part of their dick off. Why don't you let them grow up a little and then decide if they want a "better-looking penis".

Though really, I think it should be illegal.
Though if there is really no negative side to it, why does one need a valid reason to?

Foreskin is useless. It serves no practical purpose - it has no effect on sexual stimulation or pleasure.
Completely erroneous. Utterly ignorant.

Sexual:

-The foreskin is one of the most innervated segments on the body.

-It has fine touch receptors(Meissner's corpuscles). The same can be found in your finger tips. They are incredibly sensitive. Ask yourself why you would have these on the foreskin for anything but sexual pleasure.

Mechanical(uses):

-Keeps the head of the penis moist.

-Acts as a gliding mechanism. The sliding it does during intercourse reduces friction.

If you weren't so intent on proving your own bias, you would be able to find this information without looking too hard. I've got it in my medical dictionary and my anatomy text. Hell, even wiki probably has this information.

I provided a logical reason why it causes no damage...
I've already noted how innervated it is. Circumcision removes the foreskin. All those nerves are gone. Would amputation of an arm cause "no damage?" Disregarding the functional uses of the foreskin and arm, it is the same. You can't feel pain in something that no longer exists, but how can you consider that NOT to be damage?

(Disregarding phantom syndrome here for ease of conversation)

I have simple arguments.

If it's cosmetic, then let the kid decide when they are old enough to want it.
If it's for pleasure, let the kid decide when they are sexually active.
If it's to stop the spread of the disease then JUST WEAR A CONDOM.

Also, have any of you seen the Penn and Teller episode on circumcision? It's graphic but does get it's points across.

WARNING! CONTAINS SWEARING, NUDITY AND FOOTAGE OF A CIRCUMCISION.

THIS SHOW IS RATED 18.

The average life span is 67 years X 365 days X 24 hours = 586920/4= you have it out for 146730?
Do you walk around your house nude or something XD
That was a BS statistic I pulled out of the pouch of my uncircumcised penis! You get my point though.
And yes, I do.

PS. How come I'm the only one to link this?
http://www.foreskinman.com/
probably because it's insipid and patently offensive.

Foreskin Man! He kidnaps infants from their birth parents and turns them over to a band of roving hippies. What a role model!

and don't even get me started on the anti-Semitism.

I'm seeing a theme here. Everyone who's been circumcised approves of circumcision (including myself). Most people who haven't been circumcised are irrationally opposed to it. It's funny how the people who know the least about the topic at hand are the most strongly opinionated on it.

That proves my theory. Humans are afraid of the unknown.
I was gonna post my views about this, being uncircumcised and all, but I really don't feel I need to anymore.
Good job sir! You managed to make me realize something :) Not often that happens in a discussion such as this one.

Oh, one of these topics! I'm so going to have to throw my hat into the ring *Nodnod*

I'll start off by saying I'm against being done on children, but feel free when you're 18... or maybe 16... 16 is the required age for piercings, isn't it? *Shrugs*

As someone who's been circumcised at the age of 18, I can say that the circumcision did reduce the amount of pleasure I felt during sex. It wasn't a large reduction, but enough that it was noticeable. It was done for medical reasons, so if I could, I probably would have kept that piece of skin.

I miss it... ;_;

I was in my mid-twenties when I got it done for medical reasons. I had a condition called phymosis which in my particular case was the result of the foreskin being fused to the glans.

Despite the amount of pain I was in for about a week and a half after the fact, I'm still glad that my parents choose not to mutilate my genitals as a child. I'm all for body modification, but the choice should be left to the individual who has to live with the results.

Funny, tangentally related bit of TMI -- as if this post wasn't already -- despite several different sex partners, the occasional STI exam, and just regular check-ups, the first person to point out to me that I had an abnormality was because it was preventing me from getting a piercing I wanted. So I was already planning on getting muilated, just not quite that way. Of course, piercings don't hurt as much, and heal a whole lot quicker.

Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin of the penis. It is most commonly performed on newborn males (obviously).
I personally approve of it it (but don't disagree if parents or whatever opt not to) for the simple reason that it is a better-looking penis. Seriously, uncircumcised penises look like a worm trying to escape from mud.
Yes it is painful for the baby, possibly more painful than an adult would experience. However, I don't remember any pain from when I was circumcised because I can't remember anything before age 5. I'm grateful that my mother wanted me to have a good-looking penis.
I don't care about the health advantages/disadvantages or any religious practice of it but I personally approve. What about my fellow Escapees?
I think it's pretty damn pointless, but I don't have the same blood-fury towards it that many people do. It isn't like I remember it happening, and it isn't like I suffer for it, so what do I care if I'm circumcised? It makes about the same about of change in my life as being born on a Sunday would.

I won't get any future children of mine circumcised, because of the aformentioned pointlessness.

A a Jewish kid who had his dick chopped, I'd like to say that I am anti-circumcision.

Sure, it's easier to clean, and it SLIGHTLY lowers chances of STD's, but is that really worth losing the nerve endings? I don't get to enjoy sex as much as the next guy.

I will never forgive my parents for this, and so I promised myself I'd never circumcise my kids.

I have no idea if I am circumsised myself for I have no idea what the diffrence is and honestly, I'm a little scared to look it up.

Being of the penis-less (and female) condition, I don't know if I deserve an equal opinion on the subject. If I have sons, I don't think I'll personally have them circumsised unless their father feels strongly about it because I don't see the point. Does it honestly make a difference either way to anyone's adult life?
yeah there is a diesease that inflats the foreskin and it ends up constricting the head of the penis it's called.....ok i don't want to look it up but i saw it in a sex ed vidoes that i was forced to sit through when i had "that talk"

So humanity evolves a foreskin for a purpose over X thousand years, and now you want to cut it off?.....hmmm no thanks. I've never had any complaints, but then, its how you use it that counts. ;)

I've no problem with anyone cuting bits off or adding things on to their own body (3rd boob anyone?), i just think it should be the choice of the individual when and if they feel the time is right, not right after being born or during infancy.

And for those wierd people who post about it looking more "normal" what the fuck would you consider normal? What is normal exactly? Everyone on the planet is differant, there is no "normal".

My own views on circumcision would probably upset and offend a lot of people who have had it done to them, so they're probably best left un-aired.

However, I'll just link you an article I read regarding the multi-billion dollar North American Circumcision Industry and let you draw your own conclusions:

http://www.acroposthion.com/acroposthion_018.htm

If there's any truth to that, then my views on the matter are probably quite justified (albeit a little harsh), but if it's not true, then that doesn't really matter to me since I'm not circumcised and have no intention on doing it to my children, nor do I even know anyone who is, so it's all rather irrelevant to me... just another country's problem in far away land that shouldn't affect me in the slightest.

I think what you're all forgetting is just how horrifying an uncircumcised penis looks like. Circumcision isn't "chopping off body parts", it's just a simple, safe procedure, that the baby will never remember. Hell, it makes him more normal.
So, you'd chop off a bit of your newborn son's dong... so he'll fit in? Boy am I glad I live in Europe where we don't do this to babies.

My opinion on it is that you probably shouldn't be meddling with a child's genitals, for many many reasons.

A guy posted a few back the Penn and Teller show about it.
In it they show and easy and NON surgical way of giving you it back (I really never thought i would ever have to say such a thing)

One thing I have learnt today is many Americans are circumcised which I had no idea about.
I have never met a person over here that is such in England.
