I REALLY hope they change the name of it.

"I'd like a New 3DS"

"Do you mean a new New 3DS, a new old 3DS or a used New 3DS?"

Probably slightly exaggerated, they would probably rename the current 3DS to the "original" or "classic" 3DS.

But it would be much better if they changed the name.

Other than that I will probably not get one unless there's an exclusive for it that I want. Then I will weep.

betrayed and disappointed. Nintendo are really starting to take the piss now heavily. They seem to genuinely have no regard for the customer, it baffles me to no end.

And I'm angry, I'm angry because I supported their 3DS at launch and got shitty games, then they did the price drop and got a pile of old ass games that don't really make up for the fact I was giving them money. It's a damn farce I can't keep up with these DS consonles any more.

They fucked us over with Pokemon not having much 3D usage to shout about (timed with the 2DS released, it's a joke) and now they're fucking over their loyal consumer that was there at the system launch.

Should I be expected to buy a new one? Fuck no. Remember when Sony re-released a console that had exclusive games for that model? Remember when Microsoft did that? No I don't either.

Bottom line: it's god damn despicable.

I already have one, so why would I buy this new one? As long as I they don't start making a bunch of games require the new one (which would be asinine) I'll be sticking with my original 3DS until it craps out on me.

In an ideal world, those who have the current or past version should be able to exchange theirs for the new one since it's pretty much the same but slightky larger with anextra analog stick and some tech upgrade.

I find it a little bit annoying but only because I bought a 2DS so I didn't have to bother with the 3D, I'm just not a fan of 3D. Wouldn't be so bad but I missed Xenoblade Chronicles when I had my Wii and would love to play it, just not sure if I could justify buying this any time soon though.

Feel a little annoyed too, only just got my 3ds this year as I had been waiting for while, hoping for one with a better battery-life, but decided to just get one, not that suprised that there is a new version though. I just hope there isn't a big push for exclusives at the expense of those already with the system.

Honestly? I don't trust its longevity enough to buy one. I may miss out on some games, but I've only got a handful of 3DS titles I care about anyway.

"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

Other than that, if it came in a Xenoblade bundle or something like that, I'll try to get that for sure...

I'll stick to my NDS Lite, thank you very much.

Also, Nintendo's way of naming things screws up over the customers, even moreso with the 'New 3DS'.

Didn't expect it.
Don't like it.
Won't buy it.

Then again, I've never bought a handheld in my entire life and I've been gaming since the 4th generation.

Two thoughts though:

One, the name is stupid. I mean, Nintendo has NEVER been all that good with console names - GameBoy? Nintendo 64? Dual Screen? Wii? Wii U? - but this "new" shtick they're pulling is just awful - it was horrible when they did it with games, it'll stay horrible when they do it with consoles. I mean, yeah, "super" is kind of a stupid flash word, but at least it's catchy and has a definition that's open for interpretation. "New" is just "new", it's not gonna stay "new", it'll come and go and that will be it. Dear God, I hope this is just a working title.

Two, it's just the same old gimmick-covered crap with a new processor. I know it's about the games, not the hardware, I really do - but I'm still not gonna buy something with some much needless shit. Why the two low resolution screens? Why the touch functionality? Why the 3D? Why the camera pointing at your face? why the two cameras for making pointless 3D-esque photos? why the option for voice commands? Just... Why? There is never really need for any of those things. I've never seen a good DS game where a truly great gameplay element couldn't be done without any of those. Sometimes I wonder what the price of a DS would be if it was just the screen, some buttons, a battery and the whole GPU/CPU business.

Also, if you happen to like the DS, that's totally cool, more power to ya, but I just don't like it.

I like the idea of a second analogue stick but that little nub thing had better work better than it looks. Only 1 game is exclusive to it so far so I'm not sure if we should be treating it as a system that will get loads of exclusives for all we know it might just be Xenoblade, hell it cant be many games because they know that they have a bigger potential audience if they make it on the 3DS.

Also the 3DS is actually very very popular in Japan so I'm thinking they've got a Japanese market in mind when making this especially since it was announced in a Japan-only Nintendo Direct and they haven't talked about a release overseas yet.

Over than that: html5? Yes! Better CPU for quicker loading times? Yes! A second thumbstick and trigger buttons without having to use a peripheral? Yes! Choose your own theme for your 3DS menu? (this is coming to normal 3DS as well) Yes! Xenoblade on (New) 3DS? Yes! Able to change the faceplate with another design? Yes! (I can see that being popular in Japan for some reason)

Beyond being a complete backpedal of their previous stance that they wouldn't release an actual improvement for the 3DS and just variations, this greatly pisses me off...especially if it doesn't have a trade in system for standard 3DS. I was an early adopter and now you release a more powerful console with 2 more hours battery life on lowest settings, has actual buttons for start and select (which can be aggravating seen as the normal ones have them as pads/buttons next to the home button), and might potentially have a second analog stick? (don't know if its any good, need a hands on with it) this is incredibly shameful of Nintendo to clearly show they didn't think very far when releasing the 3DS, the original DS NEEDED the DS lite, and that is where it really shoulda stopped for that cycle, yet they keep trying to adjust the hardware dividing their audience and now they go even further by having games that are exclusive to the new one....and can't even find a good name for it, fuck me Nintendo get your act together.

Same boat as me, I finally got a 2DS a few months back because there was finally enough games to justify it to me. This one, nah, will wait for their next gen one.

I got a 3ds XL last month but yeah I'll buy one. Unlike most escapist members, I like giving Nintendo money.

They release a new one practically every year, it's not so much a reveal as it is a weather report.

They should also put a little more effort in differentiating their products.
While that's true, if I recall correctly, the games for this system wont work the current 3ds. At least with those other new systems, they waited before saying you HAD to buy the system to play the new games.

I've had an XL since they launched 'em. I'm fine with revisions (including 2DS), but trying to sneak in a new 1.5 console? Yeah, different. Especially since I mostly own one for Pokémon.
