Depends on the problem.
Workrelated: Step up, do the effin job and be done with it. Go home, have beer and be happy.
Economic: Pay those bills, but sometimes forget it - and pay even more later....and try to learn the lesson.
Amorous: I`m not good enough for her? OK, why in the name of shaven hamster should I think more about her? Go home, have beer - be angry...destroy the strings on the Les Paul with hard riffage, collapse, wake up - be (admittedly hungover) but happy. And a few songs might have gotten written out of it as well.
Everything else - which is more or less psychological: One day at a time. Some days are better than others, and vice versa. All the booze and drugs in the world doesn`t help in the long run. Perhaps for the night...at least I`ll be able to sleep.
Then again - I can just as well decide to torture myself with facing the shit head on. Go through the emotions, deal with it, find those small things worth saving and move on.

Being an Eagle Scout, I have to think about things a bit differently. The way I usually handle things, is by attacking a problem from a tactical standpoint: If there's a river that needs to be crossed, we build a bridge. If two kids are fighting, I break up the fight (with force if necessary), and get them to talk it over, and that usually ends up with each one getting an Oreo as long as they don't fight. If I get into a fight, I take a defensive stance. I won't throw the first punch, and I'll try to talk the fight out, but if the other guy swings, he's not walking away the victor.
Yeah, I know what that's like, from age 11-13, I had this really weird period of emotional frailty. Dealt with it now, but it did come along to cement me a fairly undesirable first impression at a new school.Jack the Potato said:
Problems, generally, I suppose I'm fairly laid back, especially compared to my oldest sister, who freaks the fuck out 24/7. Despite having a nice enough relationship with my parents, I generally don't go to them for advice, and tend to rationalize things on my own, particularly when I'm waiting to fall asleep. Depending on the problems I first I don't get involve in the problem in the first place. If I can't avoid it I will have to tough it out much to my dismay (like being force to phone some company on behalf to my parent friend to find some info's).
Usually what my mind does is take all of the panic out of normal stuff (such as exams, relationships etc.) and directs it into huge anxiety attacks over weird stuff. For example: Stressed about exam - thought occurs that i might have a terminal illness - stress about terminal illness- forget about exam - feel anxious about illness for the next few weeks.

I'm getting remarkably good at applying logic to problems rather than just blasting into them emotionally with no real idea what I'm doing. Though I'm just about quick-witted enough to be able to get away with that most of the time too.
Occasionally it makes me look somewhat robotic, or even borderline sociopathic, but it seems to work in the long run.
My response to pretty much any major problem in life has always been the same though, and I have no shame in admitting it: I phone my Mum, and ask for help. That's what parents are for, right?

Step back, and think logically. Evaluate the situation, all possible solutions, and their repercussions. But this all depends on wether or not i can keep from spouting a stream of obscenities!
