How do you kill what's already dead?

Here's a list of methods I consult when I need to stop the undead:

Set it on fire
Stab it in the heart
Cut off the head
Dismemberment
Healing magic
Corrosive Acid
And if all else fails, hit it with a shovel and bury it in a hole.

Not zombies.
If not zombies, then what?
That which should be dead, and is, but continues walking the earth.
Shotgun. That which should be dead, in my opinion, are those which should have gone with natural selection (granted they're mostly people), but science/humanity thinks it's cruel to leave them behind.
It's not living but should be dead, it's what is dead, but still moving.
So it's the living dead but not zombies? That's.... Silly.

Well if it's still technically dead then I suppose it cannae be killed, as to kill something requires one to make it dead, and one cannot make something enter a state for which it is already in.

I suppose if the whole basis for this problem is that the dead thing is moving, then it's possibly being used as a Puppet, and one needs to either "cut the strings" that make it move or disable it in a way that there's no way for it to be used as a Puppet.
Burning it into ash and grinding the remaining bones into dust should solve such a problem (Being used as a Puppet I mean), although removing particular parts of the body can also solve the problem if one wishes to do the boring solution.

To "Cut the strings" would require one to find the Puppeteer, whether it be a person using some form of elaborate setup or simply magic, although finding this person while the Dead Puppet is around could be a problem.

I'm sad to say that the most safe solution I can come up with without knowing how the Corpse is moving would be Carpet Bombing within a large radius of the target, as that would deal massive damage to the Corpse as well as having a good chance to destroy the possible Puppeteer should it be somewhat nearby it's puppet, or at the very least make the possible Puppeteer abandon the Puppet, causing it to cease to move and thus making it no longer in need of "Killing".

So... Fire from what I can tell, although I could be wrong on multiple accounts.

You don't.

If it's dead, it's no longer living, and you therefore cannot kill it, as killing by definition is taking away one's life.

You can destroy it, but that's another story.

There are two general ways in which to accomplish this feat. First, one must realize (as has been pointed out) that one can only kill something that is alive. One can certainly destroy things that are not alive but this is not the same thing as killing. Thus we find that, in order to kill something that is dead, we need to somehow restore it to life.

There are two ways to go about doing this. Either travel back in time to a point at which the dead thing was alive and then apply whatever violence you choose to kill it, or revive it through some means in the present and then apply violence. The latter route is slightly more plausible than the former of course.

You've obviously thought about this a lot more than I have. Terrifying. What if there no puppeteer? You ever watch Brimstone, see Drive Angry, or read Sometimes They Come Back?

Bury it. Bury it and encase the box/coffin in concrete and atop that 3 inches of titanium.

If it's eil, that is. If it's good, let it live=
