How Do You Make Friends?

How do you make friends on the Escapist? Do you befriend those who friend you first? Or are you a compulsive friender? Do people have to pass a complex ritual? Or do you just friend the famous folk?

Personally I usually wait until people friend me. By the time I think 'hey, it might be fun to friend this person' I've already been replying to a lot of their comments or following a lot of their threads, so it would look kind of stalkery to then be all 'will you be my fwend?'

I befriend those who I actually like and recognise on the forums.

The four that I have had added me first, but then I basically friend them as well straight away.

I like to believe that it's because they enjoy my posts that they friend me so that's how I make friends.

I don't really make friends here. I don't think I am popular enough to have people add me. Besides the Escapist is more a time killer for me or to discuss topics on views that I feel I would get a better result here. Escapist tend to be more liberal and tolerant. Where as friends I have in RL (in the South of the US) while good nice people, may not see it that way.

They have to face a complex gauntlet of traps devised by my bored mind. It's tough, it's grueling. But the end result is rewarding. It results in a bloody click on the Friend link.

And that's it.

Of course, with me being in the Forum Games more often than not, making new friends is a wee bit tough. Same goes for User Reviews. Role Playing and Off Topic is where friends are made and hearts are broken. Or something along those lines.

User Groups are nice too.

We've been doing this dance so long now I'd almost forgotten myself. A glance across a crowded forum, a brush of a quote in the midst of a chain of jokes, whispered promises of Nathan Fillion .gifs. We both knew it was leading somewhere, but we were too afraid to admit what that was, too afraid to commit to such a connection.

So yeah, I have no idea.
Even IRL, I have no idea how I got as many friends as I do.
