How do you manage Fallout 3 on Very Hard?

Holy shit guys, Fallout 3 really is easy as hell even on Very Hard.

I barely discovered this yesterday when I was going through the cave filled with Minelurks to get to the Talking Tree's heart for the Oasis quest.

Before diving into the first pool I just realized, "Hey if I maximize the difficulty maybe these guys don't die in just two shotgun blasts, and I'll get more experience so I can get the level 20 trophies faster!"

So I change the difficulty and...

Minelurks still took about 2-3 shotgun blasts in the face to kill while the King just took more shots in the face to die, but I did get more juicy experience out of them. After that quest I went around killing regular raiders and Feral Ghouls and they all still went down easily and granted me more experience at the expense of slightly more ammo.

Actually the only time I had to revert to Normal was with the Feral Ghoul Reaver in the Warrington Trainyard tunnels right before you enter the station. Holy shit guys that prick killed me in 2-3 hits, while landing a Sneak Attack headshot on him with my sniper rifle and crippling one of its legs didn't do shit.

After I completed the Tenpenny Tower quest I decided to have fun and slaughter the whole damn population in there while the game was still set on Very Hard. None of them even came close to killing me. My weapons still blew their heads off with a few measly shots.

Overall, I think everyone should try playing Fallout 3 on Very Hard at all times, it's fun, actually poses a challenge, and you get more experience out of the "experience" (predictable pun).

When I read someone's post on another thread saying that the game was too easy even on Very Hard I was in disbelief, but now after actually playing the damn thing on Very Hard I'm in disbelief that it didn't pose a challenge after all (except with that damn Feral Ghoul Reaver bastard).

So enough ranting, I'm curious as to how others managed to play Fallout 3 on Very Hard (WITHOUT MODS!).

I'd like the challenge, but when an unarmoured human can take four headshots from a shotgun, I don't want to play any more. The whole thing becomes ridiculous, not to mention unimmersive. The bullet-spongery is bad enough on Normal. Besides, there aren't really any proper tactics aside from strafing or back-pedalling, maybe occasionally taking cover involved.

Stop talking about fallout 3! i dont wanna play it again because those damn radscorpians freak me the fuck out, but your making me want to play it anyway! But its not mucha challenge when you have godmode on anyway.

EDIT: can someone recommend me some mods to either remove the radscorps, or make them not scarey looking?

It only annoyed me on higher difficulties. The game begins to have to same problem as Borderlands, the goons take too fucking long to die. The reason I play Oblivion on easy was because it took way too long to bring down anything.

What the hell without mods?
I like my Fellout and the whatevers.

But, OT: I play on it all the time.
I only turn down the difficulty when I get swarmed by enemies. Like THOSE! damn fire ants.
And greenworld.

Let there be color!

OT: Mods. Mods help. Actually mods make things better. Loads better.

The A3-21 plasma rifle just breaks the game it is soo frekin powerful. Very Hard was very easy. You just need it on the PC and get some mods.

I don't, I always leave it on normal.
The intelligent reason would be because if you die, it breaks the immersion, which Fallout does very well already. I don't want to mess that all up.

The real reason is when I die, I rage at it and turn it off. Besides, I find it just as fun being able to frolic through all the enemies.

I dealt with it by making an unarmed character (I planned him from the start) and found a Deathclaw corpse and Deathclaw Gauntlet Schematics at the Super Duper Mart... Talk about easy... shredding through Super Mutants and the like with the armour ignoring Deathclaw Gauntlet...

I have to agree, but I found the Supermutant Overload blooded hard. On normal they kicked my arse. On very hard I had to go round them or be blown to bits.

I beat the game on Hard without any of the special weapons/equipment. All you have to do is use VATS to find the location of enemies (or toss grenades because doing that outside of VATS is basically impossible) and then use actual skill to shoot up the bad guys.

Well, all I know is that if you can get your hands on the dart gun then all melee enemies, including Super Mutant Behemoths, Feral Ghoul Reavers and Deathclaws, become ridiculously easy. Two shots and you can run at twice their pace.

Try playing Fallout 3 Wanderers Edition. It is like playing a new game.

I don't know, I love Fallout 3, but not because of the gameplay or even the main story.

The game is too easy, and Fallout 1-2 fans have a reason to complain.

But...

What made FO3 great was for once I was in an open world sandbox where I wanted to explore, and the game is all about the side missions and atmosphere.

Stealth is your new best friend. Sneak up on a humanoud enemy (Like the Ghoul Reaver, perchance) and slip a grenade into its pocket. They ain't humanoid? Stay as far away as you can,but still able to land a headshot. Sneak attack headshot crit. They still alive? Hit the legs, then hit center of mass. Or you could be an ass and do Sneaky headshot>Dart gun>MOAR DAKKA on their torso.
Having armour ignoring weapons also help. The Deathclaw Gauntlet is the finest example. If you have The Pitt, there's also the Man Opener. Both weapons can be a ***** to fix,but that's what caps and NPC vendors are for.
It helps to have Operation Anchorage and grab the Chinese Stealth Suit for being a stealthy bastard. Good perks would be "Better Criticals","Slent Running" and "Finesse". If you're VATS heavy,it'd be in your best interest to also pick up "Sniper","Commando",and "Concentrated Fire".
That served me quite well in the game.

I disagree.... Bethesda's difficulty raising technique just makes baddies into tanks and means more repetitive whacking/blasting. I love F3, it's my fave game, but it's fine on normal.

Very hard in F3 and Oblivion is just boring.

And I don't want more experience either, as you level up too fast in Fallout 3, even with Broken Steel.
