I can upload pretty much any picture I find as my avatar to the escapist and that's one thing that definitely kept me here. I hate forums that make you choose from a stock library of avatars.

The funny thing is that this is the one place where I do use a stock avatar. Pretty much everywhere else I spend any non-trivial amount of time I create my own, and I have a bunch sitting around on my hard drive that I've made for various reasons. I don't use any of them here because this is the one place that has a different size restriction from everywhere else on the Internet, and 75x75 is just too small for me to deal with to try to fit anything into. It's bad enough some days trying to squish something recognizable into 100x100 or even 150x150. Oddly enough, though, despite using a stock avatar I chose out of a list, I've only ever seen one other person on this site using the same one as me.

I wanted to be my own character....So I used Dr. wondeful, a math wizard name (the irony being I''m horrible at math] and an Anime character who just so happens to be a docter.

For me, one of the great things about the escapist is that everbody has a very distinct "face" that anybody can instantly identify with. You can instantly tell, it's the hpynotoad guy that comments on every forum! The cat girl doing... something. Its that toon thing with the blue shirt and red hat that always is asking stupid questions! But why is it we have so few repeats? While 99% of the photos have been something from popular culture, they rarely overlap in use. I know like the Guru has been used at least twice, and somebody is using a back shot of that woman Suasan uses as her avatar, and many people use stuff from Zero Punctuation, but those cases are reletively rare. How can a site as big as the Escapist have so few doubles and so much distiction with everybody?

You want to know the secret? Get an awesome avatar and make it yours. don't let others steal it and serve simple warnings to those who follow your foots steps whilst they are young enough to not be attached to their avatars.
I am a prime example of this ruthless avatar awesomery.

This question has probably been answered enough, but really... did it even have to be asked? Each person is an individual, with their own tastes and opinions, and you can make anything your avatar, it's not like there's a limited choice of what you can make as your avatar.. just as long as it's appropriate. The choices are limitless.

You could be saying that 'Since there are so many people on the website, it's amazing that the same avatar doesn't show up more than a couple times'. I guess, but that's only if you stick with the avatars provided by The Escapist. To me, the more people there are, means the more diversity there is.

I always make mine, so that's why no one else ever has the same thing. This is originally a bigger .gif picture, but I had to crop alot out. The animation didn't work with such a small size either, so I had to make it just the one frame.

She's supposed to turn her eye and smile, but the teeth look way too smashed up at such a small size, and it just ruins the whole thing.

Can we call you dadoo? That's an excellent question. It could be because everyone is a unique individual and really thinks about their avatar before they use it. I really don't know. I just found out that no one here has used my avatar; I was shocked!
