the fruit is already wrapped in the skin. i'd just stick a bow and a card on it and hand it over. "look, we wrapped it in actual pineapple skin"

So far, it looks like ribbons around the base of the leaves seems to be my best option...

Having received a pineapple as a gift, I don't recommend giving one. But then apparently the person knows what to do with one, so that's cool. I think a small basket with a bow around the base of the stem will work nicely.
I suddenly feel happier knowing I"m not the only person who's had the line of thought of gifting a pineapple.
It ended in tragedy though! Just sat there...
You didn't eat it? =O

I have no idea how this is in any way relevant, but I'm going to say it anyway.

There was this parrot, named Alex, he could count to six, identify colours and even express his discomfort and boredom through words towards the scientists that studied him.

He made up a word for apples, having not being taught the word or fed apples before, he called them Ban-erries, as he thought they tasted like a mixture of bananas and berries.

Yeah, it's definitely not relevant. But it's done now.

Wrap the pineapple in newspaper and toss it through their window, with the following note.

The following note said:
Leave town by midnight or there will be blood.
Just kiddin'
Here's a fucking pineapple.

Here's what I'd do.

Get a square of cellophane, and place the pineapple in the centre. Then just pull the sides up to the "neck" of the pineapple and tie a ribbon around it.

That, or serve it to them with cheese on sticks:

Take your pick.
Naked? Gift wrap cannot be used as a verb I don't believe, so how does one use "naked" to wrap it? I guess that since "wrap" can be used a verb, some people may extend the same to "gift wrap," but that seems silly to me.

Get a sheet of wrapping paper and place the pineapple in the centre, fold the paper up towards the leaves of the pineapple, slightly twisting the paper around the 'neck'. Tie some decorative ribbon around the twist and voila, one wrapped pineapple.

Don't worry too much about hiding the leaves, pineapples have a rather distinctive shape and you're unlikely to fool anyone.

Is there any other kind of giggling?

Ooh Ooh! Cut a jagged line into the top, wrap it in a blanket, put it in a basket, get a really big guy with a beard to leave it on their doorstep, with explicit instructions to speed off on his motorcyle as soon as they open the door.

Ten years later, get him to come back looking for Harry Pineapple, and imagine the fear in their eyes when they have to explain what happened to him.

In news paper.

Actually that might be a bad idea. Okay here is what you do.

You build a box out of tooth picks. Make sure the frame is strong and at least 3x3 toothpicks thick. Now after you glue yourself a tooth pick frame.

Wrap that Frame in duck tape. now put the pineapple in the frame. Now paper mache the frame.

Let it set for 12 hours. Now cover the home made box with construction paper. Now wrap like you would wrap any ordinary box.

Try not to drop it.

with great difficulty.
Not really, it's actually quite easy.
Depends on how anal you are about creases in wrapping paper. If I wrap something you know I wrapped it.
Same way I am, if I wrap something, I want it to look damn good, but the snag is that I am utterly terrible at wrapping gifts, and often fail at it after a while of effort. =P

Bright_Raven said:
i handle pineapples at work, the people who wrap them "in clear plastc" suck at it, and it would split the paper (sharp and pointy)
Where do you work? o.0

Screw boxes, get some ribbon and put a series of bows around the base of the leaves, then put it in a gift bag.
This is a good way of presenting it but the surprise is gone.

Build their expectations with a huge box, then watch them be crushed when they see it's a pineapple, I'd do it (which is another reason not to do it).
This is always fun, my friends try and make their gifts as hard to open as possible (it once took my friend 2 and a half hours to open her gift and it ended up being a concert ticket, often the journey is better than the end result) so get a big box and create an intriquate contraption to house the pinneapple so that when they finall get the gift they are so shocked that it's something that simple.

I volunteer for this, if the OP is interested.
