How is F.E.A.R. 3? Do people still play it online?

Found this for pretty damn cheap online (Plus I have credit so it would only cost me $10) and was thinking about getting it.

I played and enjoyed the last two games and want to see the series through to the end (If this is the end).

Plus the online modes look interesting, especially the L4D-ish "Fucking Run!" mode.

But I don't want to get it only to find out the online is a ghost town. I mean, I'm sure there are still and always will be a few people online but if it's already so bad that I have to wait 15 minutes to get a full lobby I might not even bother.

So, do people still play this online? And how long is the main campaign? 6, 8, 10 hours?

Damn, I can't seem to get anybody to comment on this game.

I guess in a way that kind of answers my question.

If you enjoy horror, terror, and shitting yourself as Alma walks towards you, don't buy this game.

If you like co-op, teleport-y possessions while your buddy does slow mo 'killeveryoneinthefuckingroom' and getting scored on it while weird shit pops up for a brief moment in between killing, get F.3.A.R. As a game, not terrible. As a horror, this is right up there with Doom 3. But worse.

It's a terrible game. There is absolutely no horror in it what so ever. It tries to be scary but really, it just wants you to kill things. The story is pretty bad as well, the campaign I'd say is about 5-6 hours long. I was sorely disappointed with this game.

EDIT: Wait, $10? I paid $60 and got my $60 out of it. I didn't register that part at first; for $10, it's quite a steal. I thought you were paying full price for it...
Yeah, most copies on Amazon are around $20 plus I got $10 credit PLUS my Amazon Prime trial ends tomorrow so I could get 2 free days shipping.

My concern isn't really how scary it is or the story, just if there's still a sizable amount of people online and that at the end of the day whether it's a fun shooter, which you say it is.

it's actually pretty fun.

the campains like 6 hours but you can play through it with 2 different people so 12 hours. and they play pretty different.
the actual shooting part of the game is solid too
the co-op is also really good

i dont know about the multiplayer never tried it

also if you are a fan of the first 2 it wraps up the story the best way it could of with the mess it was... watch yahtzee's review lol :p

Sadly, I'm afraid I must tell you the painful truth: Yes, F.E.A.R 3 is quickly becoming a ghost town. I can never find anyone to play the online modes with me, and getting someone to play co-op is near impossible too. It's rather sad, as you are correct in that the online modes themselves are a total blast to play. I had a great time play "F**king Run!" with my friends. NOTE: This is based on the PS3 community. No idea about other ones, but I'm betting it's the same.

As for the game itself, I found it fun. It ties into the first game and brings back those characters (except one) and does its best to tie F.E.A.R 2 into the story. Unfortunately, the story of F.E.A.R. is so twisted--and F.E.A.R 2 didn't help--that F.E.A.R. 3's story suffers when it tries to get everything back on track. I'm hoping that now that all the stories are back on the same page, the next game will be better.
Gameplay is very solid. You use cover and your enemies are on the upper end of the A.I. ladder. For me, there were also a few unnerving moments, but nothing that really set me on edge or made me jump like the first game.
All in all, it's totally worth $10. However, if you want it for the multiplayer, you may want to pass.

Hmm, that is a bummer. Now I'm not so sure.

I like a good single-player game, but for the most part I go for multiplayer games to up the replayability factor. But if nobody plays the online portion of the game then there's little reason to get it.

But in cases like this I always have to remind myself that there's still people playing games like Left 4 Dead and MGO and even Lost Planet 2. I'm sure there's always going to be at least a few people online so it really comes down to how good the matchmaking system is. So I'm still somewhat on the fence about getting it. Might have to just flip a coin or something. That's what I usually do for tough decisions like this.

If you're buying it for the PC, I wouldn't. The multiplayer has never worked. People just couldn't find multiplayer games since launch and the multiplayer was dead pretty much in week 1. Also good luck trying to play it co-op with a buddy, the game will drop one person or the other randomly and if you're lucky you can just pick up where you left off, if you're unlucky you'll have to start the level over.

I was going to get it on the 360. I heard between the consoles that was the more stable and better looking version.

And I did.

Tried the single-player and I've liked what I've played. The controls are really tight and the shooting feels great, really satisfying. It's also probably the only first-person game that has a cover mechanic that's actually worth a damn. Good, tense atmosphere too, though any real attempt at horror kind of falls flat but like I said, not really here for the horror. Only real complaint is that the AI is kicking my ass.

But as I was warned, the online is a ghost town. Only found like 3 games. Really disappointed. I just figured since games like MGO and even Bioshock 2 still have an active, albeit small, but still active online community, this one would too. Should have figured it wouldn't though, Monolith (I know they didn't develop this but it is their franchise) don't really have a great track record when it comes to the online portion of their games, despite their online games being pretty solid and fun.

Anyway, I'll play through the campaign and still try to find some games but I'll probably end up selling the game in a few weeks. For more then I paid of course.

A lot of idiots didn't like the MP because they wanted DM and TDM. I'm glad the dev decided to give us something new for a change. The versus modes in Soul possession modes were really entertaining. Overall, I loved the game, and the story as well.

I thought the online modes were pretty fun, but they should've had a basic death-match if anything. I enjoyed F**KING RUN and Contractions, but most people prefer online competitive and so there wasn't much life to the game after the initial sales and such. It was fine as a shooter, but the story and mostly everything else was lackluster.
Thing about that is, there's still a ton of people playing Left 4 Dead, even on consoles.

Also, bad design choice: Making it so you can only search for a specific online scenario one at a time instead of just making it so you can search for that gametype.

While I'm not normally like this, Fethreeear just doesn't seem like F.E.A.R to me. 2 Weapon limit, no armour, regenerating health, a god damn cover system, levels set in day time... Nah, I'm avoiding it.

I enjoyed FEAR3.. even enjoy co-op play with my wife. The online I havent been in awhile but it wasnt bad a few months ago and I dont think its a ghost town because its sort of unique in its gameplay and with holiday sales around the corner it should have life for awhile longer online.
