I managed to finish Harry potter and The Half-blood prince in one afternoon.

I read most books until there was nothing left, so seven or eight hours?

So what I'm wondering is this: Is other people finishing books in days just a product of my imagination, or is that how normal people read? How long does it take you to read an average 500 page novel?
It depends on how much I read. If it is a difficult book or I am just not as much into it, I take up to a month to read a book.

If I like the book (like Game of Thrones right now) about a week.

I had 331wpm and 9/11 correct.

I read a 500 page novel in a day. If it's slow going, I might have to finish it the next morning. According to your little test, I read a 273 wpm, with a 82% comprehension rate. I think that the comprehension rate is higher when I read novels because that test sequence was boring, and because I rarely forget much of anything that's happened in a book, even if I read it years ago.

This is exactly why I try to find books that are almost 1000 pages long, and that are part of a series, that way I can be entertained for a while. Still, it never takes me long, I read a book series that was over 10,000 pages long in less than 2 weeks.

To answer your question, yes this happens because I sit down to read the book for hours at a time and actually read the book for that entire time(most of it, I occasionally stop to think about the book). If this isn't just some bad joke, and you really read like that, you either need to find a better book, or you need to go get checked out for ADD or ADHD.
No need to be a dick about it. Some people just read at different speeds.
I'm not being a dick, did you read the OP? If you can't even sit still and focus long enough to read more than a handful of pages of a book, without zoning out and losing your place several times, either the book is incredibly boring, or you have some kind of attention problem. I suspect he was likely exaggerating, in which case: whatever, but if he was serious, then he should probably go talk to a doctor. But what do I know, I'm just a dick.

depending on the size and how the story "grips" you. A day or two. small ones (read less then 300 pages) few hours.

A few days sounds about right for me. I'll shift around and such while reading, but it's nowhere near distracting enough to make me forget where I was and have to re-read things. I also don't really daydream or stare off into space while reading, as if I'm reading something it's either because I want to or I have to, neither of which are things that lend themselves to my wanting to doze off. So yes, a few months for a single book seems like a really, really long time to me, but if that's how you enjoy reading then more power to you.

It takes me about 5 hours to read most large books; when I'm ill and have nothing to do I usually end up reading close to 4 books in a day. Unfortunately, I usually don't have those 5 or so hours alone next to a book.
I got 305w/m and 10/11 questions correct.

If i really get down to reading and avoid my other hobbies, two weeks or so.
But usually about a month.

Dude! You beat me, heh. Took me 3 days. The sequel is INSANE.

P.S. Denna is a total dick.
I agree. She got on my nerves a good couple of times :D

God, it seems to take for ever to deliver one book... I can't wait for the sequel, but I'm dreading how long I have to wait for the third book to be published :/

Depends on the book.

If it's good and keeps me grabbed then I won't put it down until i'm finished.

It took me a day and a half to finish the last Gaunts Ghost book I read.

If it doesn't keep me hooked but I want to read it through it takes me a lot longer, i'll just read it when i'm in the bath.

It varies massively. I finished Dawn of War: Tempest in under a day, but it took me over three months to read Tenderness of Wolves (and I didn't even finish it, made it to about 250 pages) because it was mind-blowingly boring, and not because bugger all happened, but because it explained the entire life stories of characters who weren't really important anyway, and were as boring as the book was.

If I am in a reading mood, I am the fastest reader ever. Have finished the Harry Potter series in a week before. But if I am not in the mood I read maybe a few pages before I have to stop. All really just depends on how I am feeling at the moment. Also heavily depends on content, reading a text book would take me ages, but reading a good novel of the same length would take me considerably less time.

I can read a 500 page novel in about half a day.

The reading test gave me 600 wpm and 91% comprehension.

I am slow as hell at reading I achieved 150 on that test thing. Times I have read a book it has usually taken a week of near constant reading or about a month or so.

Mr girlfriend on the other hand is a lot faster with her reading, I book that took me 2 weeks was finished in an afternoon with her. She gets though a lot of books, I am always hauling books to and from the libery.
She is on something like 5 books a week sometimes more, although she does not really have to find time to read it is an hour commute to and from work that helps.

170 wpm and 100% of the questions right. I think my wpm was throne off a bit by the fact I kept pausing at grammar and punctuation errors in the text :/ There weren't many of them, but they're there.

But yeah, I've always wanted to take a speed reading course, and I do knock off novels in about 2 days or less.

I can go through a good-length (say, 500 page) book in a few hours. It's hard to say how long a book really takes me though, as I only rarely just sit down and read a book from start to finish...
...on the other hand, however, I did go through the entire Wheel of Time series in two weeks back in May.

it usually takes a couple days, but I usually read books that are only a couple hundred pages.
But I haven't read a novel in like a month.

WAY TOO FUCKING LONG. Every time I had assigned reading in high school it took me over a month to finish, if I even bothered to read the whole thing.
