I started out on the PC, but I got a NES soon after (only console I ever owned) however, a lot of my games were in german (not a language me or my family knew), so there was a certain element of playing it blind. It wasn't a problem with Super Mario games, but Zelda was a bit tricky. I managed, but I was flying blind.
