I suppose indie games. I just don't have any interest in them.

Furthermore I'd have to say the majority of modern multiplayer FPS games.

I am frustrated by gamers who fall for the mainstream bullshit that passes for quality; they have fallen for the millions spent on pretty ads and propaganda, millions that were stripped from development costs. I am angry at the stupidity of such a wide swathe of people. There are better ways to spend your precious time here on this earth than playing another fucking final fantasy.

... So playing OTHER videogames ARENT a waste of time then?...

Um... I am sorry, but the reality is that it dosnt matters if you play COD or Angry Birds or Mario, they are ALL a "waste of time"...
Yeah this is pretty much the answer i had, they are all time sinks but i do love putting my time into them, over other ways to waste my time.

I have no interest in CoD or the moronic, consolised gaming culture it (and Halo) created. Expand that to include any other generic, military shooter one might care to name.

I have no interest in sports games, except for a tiny handful of exceptional games that break the mold.

I have no interest in the Dante's Inferno/Beyonetta/Devil May Cry type of game. They're tedious to the point of coma-inducing.

I have no interest in tiled/gridded/turn based (J)RPGs, or pretty much any JRPG. A JRPG is one where a sexy female sidekick is continually gasping, the weapons are larger than the people wielding them or the main character is a brooding teenager whose hair is a primary colour.

I have no interest in the grinding aspect of any RPG/MMO. I will not spend hours for a single token when I need thirty, nor hours for the chance to get a drop from a boss.

I will never chase down and hunt rooftop feathers, graffiti spots, magazines, postcards or any other hidden goodies you've scattered 100 of throughout your world.

I'm very much a snob in some regards. I'll play almost any game, apart from 'Japanese' ones. I just dislike them, I dislike the stories, characters and just so much about them. The last japanese game I enjoyed was likely final fantasy 9.

I now dismiss most Japanese styled games out of hand assuming it's a waste of time for me to try them, and when I very occasionally do I tend to be proved right. Latest example being the res 6 demo, I hated that with a passion.

On a side note, I hated using the term 'japanese' as it makes me sound like a crazy old racist but it's the only way I know how to describe that particular genre of games (it goes beyond just jrpgs).

I admit, I refuse to play most mainstream stuff.

But it isn't due to me being a "hipster" or anything, I have several reasons.

1. Most mainstream stuff does not interest me (there are exceptions).

2. I tend to enjoy stuff that would fall under a normal person's radar.

3. Most mainstream stuff seems to be conforming.
Those all seem like pretty hipster-y reasons to me.

I'll play pretty much anything so no, I'm not a gaming snob.

I am as about as far away form a snob as it gets. I will flat out attack people for inferring they are better for liking one thing over another. Hell snob has a negative connotation behind it people. You don't want to be a snob, its not a good thing. Unless you're an ass hole, or a cartoon villain.

I couldn't give a flying fuck what console you have what games you play or if your good at them :) If you enjoy a game awesome just don't preach or judge me on my choices and i won't about yours.

Always happy to chat about games but will never say a game is "shit", will just except that it isn't a game for me. Will listen to anyone who wants to chat about a game or try a recommendation and happy to try games.

To be blunt i hate evangelism in all forms who gives a fuck if console x is better than console y enjoy what you have :)

I'm a titanic snob. In life as well as game.

I occasional have this brought to me when I post threads asking people to agree with some opinion of mine that is apparently in the tiny minority. Like [...] how I think every great series I can think of that's been ruined in the last five or ten years has been ruined because of attempts to appeal to 'casual gamers' whoever the fuck those devilspawn are.
On what gaming website in the history of the internet is this in a tiny minority's opinion?

OT: None in particular. I don't like military shooters because what I like most in an FPS/TPS is experimenting with fun new guns on fun new enemies. In those games I only get variations of pistols, shotguns and machine guns and variations of "human" as enemies. Boring.
Also: Most sports games. Not sure why, but they don't really interest me. Although I do love SSX, probably because it's all so unrealistically overblown and I love skiing IRL.

Did you intentionally miss out on Bayonetta and Vanquish because of that reason? Try everything made by Platinum, YOU MUST! And then you may thank me. If you like them. But seriously, IMHO the best current development team.

Well, reading this thread, I certainly now look down, waaaay down, on people who seem to think that playing a certain titles makes me 'part of the problem' or whatever.

But they aren't going to care, are they?
It's the internet, no one gives up on their opinions.

Fuckers.

I don't like a lot of the stereotypical "bro games," like CoD, Halo, Madden, etc. I do like games with a lot of aesthetic value, like the details and depth in Half-Life and Bioshock, the beauty of Dear Esther, the stories to get lost in in Mass Effect, the atmosphere of Bastion. But I also love the juvenile fun in TF2, Soul Calibur, and things like that. So, yeah. I'm pretty much game for most things except sports and FPS's without any flavor or visual variation.

PC Gamers are the Nazis of the gaming world in my opinion. Quoting a post I read before writing this. 'The PC Gamer Master Race' thinks that everyone should use a keyboard and mouse and controllers/gamepads are uncomfortable, and stupid.

Ok, sorry, I'm just mildly frustrated at people that think 'consoles are for kids'. I'm a 27 year old black male from southern Mississippi. I HATE HAAAAAATE Madden/FIFA and yes, I look down my nose at anyone that pays EA $60 every year one comes out. I love Call of Duty, (except for Black Ops). Psychonauts is one of my favorite games of all time. I'm playing Borderlands for the 4th time because I love it so much. Bottom line, there is a certain definition of "gamer" that REAL gamers tend to adhere to. No one that only plays Angry Birds is a gamer. Spending 72 straight hours on Farmville/Cityville/Shitville doesn't make you a gamer. Beat the original Ninja Gaiden on the NES without dying. THEN you're a gamer. Rack up 120 stars in Super Mario 64. Then you can talk to me about what being a gamer is. Beat Uncharted 1, 2, AND 3 on Crushing difficulty. Then you can talk to me about what being a gamer truly is.

Ehhhh I'm more of a music snob. Trying to hide my music elitism can be excruciating if I come across something which pisses me off.
Then you'll eventually become a gaming snob. I started out as more of a music snob because music is easy to understand and enjoy, comparatively. Music is a lot of math with artistic flourish.

My next snobbery was movies. It's considerably harder to quantify what makes a good movie, and music is actually a part of that. Genuine music snobs are doomed to eventually become movie snobs.
Haha I'm already slipping into that. Started watching Quentin Tarantino a lot.

Edit to clarify. Being a snob is not being a hipster. Hipsters don't like things that are popular regardless of quality because they're douchebags with soul-patches or goatees, with ironic glasses... and maybe fedoras ;p
Agreed. I'll admit to be a music snob but the word "hipster" is used way too freely. There really aren't that many hipsters about.

I'm sorry, but it really bothers me when people start talking about what a "real gamer" is. That's like saying you have to read x books to be a real reader, or watch x movies to be a movie watcher, or have been to x places to be a traveller, or have seen x paintings in real-life to be an appreciator of art. Games are many things, meaning gamers are also many things.

These days, a game about a fat, Italian plumber hopping down a magical tube into a campy world of evil turtles to save a magical princess from the most evil turtle of all would not be a "hardcore" game. It's only considered hardcore because it's old and classic, and the people who are setting the standard of what "hardcore" is grew up with it so they have to find some way to justify having played and enjoyed it.

So just stop acting like you're the gatekeeper of gaming, because people are going to play whatever games they want, and if you're going to get bent out of shape about what they call themselves then I'm afraid the only person who will be giving shits about it is you.

Who said I was the "gatekeeper" of gaming? Not me. And you're exactly right, no one gives two shits about it but me. But in all honesty, thats the only person's opinion that matters to me. All I did was express my frustration at people that call themselves "gamers" but wouldn't know a decent game if it snuck up behind them and snapped their neck.

My capcha is exactly what I'm gonna be after writing this post: gone fishing

Hugely snobby. Sorry, internets. I watch Jon Blow lectures, I've written enough to fill a novel praising Dark Souls, I think Bethesda, Rockstar, and Valve are all "okay"...

I actually don't hate CoD as much as some people. It's just thoroughly mediocre. Well, the multiplayer at least; single player is an abomination.

Oh, and people who play casual games, sports games, and most Wii games are sub-human.

I hate the thirteen-year-old boys who think they know about war, death, weapons, and combat because they can quickscope. By that logic, playing Skyrim should give me the ability to shoot fire out of my hands.

Hate anyone who measures the quality of a game based solely upon its graphics. So, there's CoD, Crysis, and Skyrim -- and everything else is shit? Say what with the what, now?

I don't get the hype around Halo. I don't hate it, I just didn't think what I played of it was all that and a bag of chips.

Generally I don't consider getting a game that has a less-than-good Metacritic rating.

I won't play first person games on console. Aim with a stick?

Hate those who do any of the following in multiplayer:
Rage quit over literally nothing;
Go AFK at the most hectic moment;
Trash-talk other players;
Team-kill or other grief play;
Run off alone and die to overwhelming enemy force, repeatedly, like that concrete wall is gonna crack if he just bashes his skull into it enough times;
Pipe what I will charitably call "music" through the mike channel;
Loudly proclaim that he knows the sole path to victory in the current scenario, attempt to boss everyone into doing things his way, then throw a fit when nobody does what he says.

In other words, I hate at least 80% of people in multiplayer.
