How often do you decide not to post to avoid CAPTCHA?

I'm so glad to learn I'm not the only one that does this. I kind of dig that it makes me actually consider how much I want to say something. If everyday in-person conversations had this feature, maybe I wouldn't end up saying the word ***** so often.

tbh, this is one of the most stupidest complaints I've heard about this site.
..and yet, you decided to post here and bump it. Thanks.

I would have avoided posting in this thread if not for the captcha, thankfully it wasn't there.

Really it mostly makes me avoid talking if I didn't have much to say, so in a sense I guess it works.

One of the huge advantages of the Pub Club.

I got a captcha that was half-chinese once. That confused me.
Yeah, the half that's digitized from a book is sometimes interesting. My favorites so far:

Stuff containing a long S [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_s] or things with diacritics, math formulae, hanzi/kanji, and one memorable one that was clearly part of an image.

The captchas don't really bother me all that much, for pretty much all the reasons stated above. I don't let it dictate whether I post or not.

Only when my brain fails me and deciphering them is impossible to me, doesn't happen often but it sometimes happens for the most part I don't mind the captchas but on those rare instances when I try to decipher 10 different captchas and I just can't it's pretty damned frustrating.

Not exactly full of confidence that'll work. Considering the level of complaint in the past, and the lack of action.

Hell, I reported a problem I was having where I'd get Captchas several times in a row, and I didn't even get so much as a follow-up.

Nopoe, never. I just put up with the CAPTCHA and type down whatever I see in it.

I usually have no trouble with CAPTCHA, that said though, I'll admit if I wasn't too fussed about posting the comment in the first place, I'll usually not bother.

Never, the CAPTCHAs for me are rarely hard to read and if they are I just refresh and get a better one.

Okay, now that this thread has been bumped by someone else . . .

It was still on page 1 of the forum, what's your fucking point?

Do you want me to quote you in every thread you disagree with and bump, and repeat back to you what you've just said here?

Also, you didn't address anything I said. Are you trying to waste everyone's time here, or what?
Say something valuable and I will address it.

Hint: Calling my complaint stupid isn't valuable.

Never. If I decide I have a contribution I want to make, I'll make it. The CAPTCHA is just a little deciphering puzzle to do on the side. And if not the current one, then a couple of refreshes will leave you with an easy enough image. You'd have to be truly lazy in order to say "meh, screw it" in the face of that.

Very well. Let me put this in the simplest possible way.

You cannot avoid captcha by not posting.

If you close out of a thread because you see the captcha box pop up, it will only pop up again on the next thread you want to comment on. (Because you haven't entered one yet. The forum remebers this.)
What do you do then? Do you close that thread as well?

Captcha needs to be entered every (I not exactly sure of the number, but) 20th post, I think?
If you do not enter one, you have not yet made that particular 20th post. Hence why captcha will only bother you again the next time you try to post.

Ergo, trying to avoid captcha by not posting is not actually possible.
It's far easier to just enter the damn thing and be on your merry way.
It seems to work if you close the tab or the browser windows and come back later or the next day or whatever. Really though, it comes down to not wanting to fuck with CAPTCHA at a specific time but not minding it as much a few hours later.

It's just that the former is becoming more likely than the latter. I already post less here than I did a few months ago and I am just wondering if there are other people who post less too because of CAPTCHA.

It does seem that things move slower on this board lately but I have no evidence to back that up, it just seems. Also, I have had CAPTCHAS 3 or 4 times in a row so there is no evidence that it only comes up every 10 or 20 posts.

Ahhhh, I see where you coming from now.
Admittedly, I can understand someone who is not in the mood for captchas, to go do something else for a while instead.

Personally, I have never abandoned a post entirely because of it, but I guess if the captcha post counter (or whatever it is) resets after a few hours (entirely possible, it's supposed to stop spammers afterall), maybe coming back later might be a good idea for some.

I have definitely noticed this too, though I don't think it's related to captchas.
I think it might have more to do with the site redesign than anything else.

..or the instability of the servers, the site seems to slow down alot too. Not just on Wednesdays either. I know Escapist is broke after that Extra Credits mess so maybe they could save money by dropping CAPTCHA. :)

Not. I only post on topics I think are interesting enough to post on, and Capatcha won't make the topic any less interesting. Eventhough it can be a little annoying at times.

Never.
I probably only post about 1/3 of what I write, but the captcha doesn't bother me. Just refresh if you can't understand the words.

Talk about it here, hope the mods give a shit what posters think.
Or you could contact a mod directly, maybe even join the Moderation Team group made specifically for members to voice their opinions and suggest improvements. Or you could moan to us, I suppose...

OT: Never.

Contacting a mod directly would probably have zero impact, just like this thread but atleast with this thread there is more than one person "moaning".

Seriously, get over yourself, if this thread bothers you so much, why not skip it?
