Lol at the derailing of discussing the meaning of the fish and IQ rather than the answer. I randomly choose...green house

The German; I already figured this one out a few months ago. Took me about 4 hours to finish up the chart I made for it.

Loads of people probably answered the question correctly since me, but the
German
owns the fish. Amiright? My info checks out anyway I think..

Nowegian = drinks water, yellow house, smokes dunhill, owns cats, furthest left.
Dane = drinks tea, blue house, owns a horse, smokes blends, second furthest left.
Brit = drinks milk, red house, owns birds, smokes pall malls, centre house.
German = drinks coffee, green house, owns fish, smokes prince, second furthest right.
Swede = drinks beer, white house, owns dog, smokes bluemasters, furthest right.

It's purported that Einstein said 98% of the world's population could not figure out this logic problem.
Well It's Obvious he was wrong. Did he ever ask the entire population of the world the question? No. He really should have gotten some better results.

(Sidenote: This isn't all that hard, I did it in class in the 8th grade and only 5 kids out of 34 couldn't solve it in the class period.)
Not NOW, at least. People can just ask the internet, and more than likely, those kids were sitting at the same table. Took me well over a class period to do it, so that's pretty good. Then again, it was late, and I was pretty tired as well as multitasking when I was solving it. Plus, the increases in academic standards are enormous in this day and age as compared to Einstein's lifetime. He was probably accurate, but it's now dated and invalid information.+

I'm pretty sure it's the German, who also lives in the green house, 4th from the left, smokes prince and drinks coffee.

Shit, that took a while.

I'm pretty confident that the:
Norwegian owns the fish, lives in the leftmost yellow house, smokes Dunhill, and drinks water.
I've always loved these puzzles, but I'm having trouble filling out the rest of my tables.

I.Q tests measure how good you are at I.Q tests.
My thoughts exactly, and I subscribe to the theorem that the louder someone trumpets their IQ, the dumber they are in practice.

After wasting way too muc htime on this, I'm pretty sure I have the answer. It's not a trick question, and it doesn't even take much thinking. All you need is some patience. Simply draw a chart and you get (I think)...

The German.
Nothing like drawing a picture, or if your of lesser ability like me, cutting out 25 bits of paper and arranging them like a jigsaw untill you get.... The
The German, in his green house, supping his coffie, puffing on a prince.

I've answered that question before... it took me a long time, but I got it right. That being said, how is that Einstein came up with that statistic? Clearly, the majority of people who put their minds to it actually DO figure it out, so I'd wager that it's more along the lines of 60-70% of people ARE capable of figuring it out.

Brit - Red House - Birds - Milk - Pall Malls

Dane - Blue House - Horse - Tea - Blends

German - Green House - FISH - Coffee - Prince

Swede - White House - Dogs - Beer - Blue Masters

Norwegian - Yellow House - Cats - Water - Dunhill

House Order: Yellow, Blue, Red, Green, White

Please spoiler any serious answers.

Who owns the pet fish?
The Norwegian lives in the leftmost house, next to blue house. The owner of the center house drinks milk, and cannot therefore be green house whose owner has coffee for a drink. The gren house is position 4 as it is to the left of the white one and there is no other place for a pair of houses to fit the given clues. Thus, the center house is red and the Brit lives there. The Norwegians house must thus be yellow. The Dane drinks tea and so doesn't live in the coffee-drinking green house. The Swede raises dogs so he is not the one who owns horses. The identity of the Blue house is hence still unknown.

The man in the centermost house is the Brit and drinks milk. The green owner drinks coffee. The Dane drinks tea and so does not live there. The one who smokes Bluemasters drinks beer. Because the German smokes Prince, we know now that the German does not drink beer. We established already that the Brit drinks milk, so he cannot smoke Bluemasters. Since the Norwegian smokes Dunhills, he can't do the Bluemasters/Beer combo either. And the Dane drinks tea, resulting in the Swede having the beer.

The owner of the yellow house (Norwegian) smokes Dunhill. The German smokes Prince. The on who smokes Blends, has a neighbor who drinks water, and the green one drinks coffee. Hence, the person in the white house does not smoke Blends. The Dane can't smoke Bluemasters, since he drinks tea and not beer, as deducted before. The Brit drinks milk, so Bluemasters are out for him. The Norwegian doesn't smoke the Bluemasters either, since he smokes Dunhills. And the German smokes Prince, not Bluemasters. The only option is that the Swede smokes Bluemasters. Therefore, the Swede drinks beer, concurring the result of the drinks-deduction.

The man who keeps a horse, lives next door to the Dunhill smoker, who is the Norwegain, so the owner of the blue house has a horse. The Norwegian smokes Dunhills, so he does not have birds. The Swede keeps dogs, so he can't own horses and live in the blue house. Whomever smokes the Bluemasters, doesnt own birds.

When we realize that the Swede smokes Bluemasters, drinks ber and keeps dogs, we know everything except the colr of his house. He doesn't live in the red one because he drinks beer instead of milk. Nor does he live in the green house, as he does not drink coffee. He is not in the yellow house either, due to the Dunhills, and since he doesn't own a horse he isn't the owner of the blue one. So, he lives in the white house.

The blue house and the green house are still unknowns the Dane must be in the blue one drinking tea, because he doesn't drink coffee: therefore, he can not be in the green one. We already know that the Brit is the owner of the red house and the Norewgian is in the yelow house. So we can put the German into the green.

Based on this, we have the German drinking coffee and smoking Princes in the green house. The Swede is in the white, smoking Bluemasters and drinking beer with dogs keeping thirsty frat-students away. The Norwegian is in the yellow house, getting lung cancer from Dunhills. The Dane is in the blue house drinking tea and grooming a horse. Since he has a horse, he can't have birds and therefore doesn't smoke Pall Malls, but Blends. The Brit is in the red house drinking milk.

Since the Dane, inside the blue house, smokse Blends, his neighbor must drink water. The house next door belongs to the Brit who already drinks milk. So the Norwegian on the other side must be the one who drinks water. We know what everyone smokes (but the Brit) who by default smokes Pall Malls, and hence also owns birds.

Since he owns the birds, the neighbor of the Blends smoker (who has cats) is the Norwegian, leaving only one outcome:

The German owns the fish.

Did I get it right? It is possible I have a mistake there somewhere as I did this in a bit of a hurry, but I did play this out on paper and it seems to fit.
Yup, that's right. I got stuck literally at the last paragraph because of how I'd laid it out on the paper, thinking I must've done something wrong at the start. I read through your guide most of the way until I realised that I actually did it right, and then finished it myself. Cheers for that :D

Why do we care who owns the fish?
Because it is a logic puzzle. If you can figure it out then apparently you are smarter than 98% of the world. Don't you want to say you are smarter than 98% of the world?
I have an I.Q of 162. I already AM smarter than 98% of the world. Also, Your Momma owns the pet fish.
We only have your word for that, this test is distinct proof.
Distinct proof my ass

Actually, scratch what I said before, this is definitely a conclusive proof of someone's intelligence.

If you don't waste your time on this, you are intelligent.

Well god damn. I just spent about an hour working this thing out, only to then get stuck, give up and find out I had actually fucked up really early on.... but that my logic thereafter was more or less faultless.
