The best way to please a women (who truely likes you for you) is to do something that involves going out of your way or something that was your idea..... any rich prick can go down the store and buy a diamond or something like that.... all that means is that you have deep pockets and you think money can buy you waht you want.... girls dont want that...
HOWEVER if you went down to the store and brought say.... i dunno some Paua earrings or something because Paua is her favorite stone/shell thats different because it shows you have put thought into it....
i know this kind of shit sounds corny but corny works.... think about what she likes... take note of what she talks about and if your going to give gifts try to make them align with something special (i cant give you specific examples because i dont know her)
also something like cooking dinner or going on a picnic (once again corny) is not a bad option because it shows that you put time and effort into it....
One idea which does sometimes work is if there is an "object" she likes or a piece of jewellery you can always get it engraved with a message or something.... my last GF had her ipod touch stolen and i brought her a new one which was red because its her favorite colour and had her name and a short message engraved on the back.... so it stopped just being an ipod and became something more special....

Flowers! Get their favourite flowers, in my experience they love it (but don't get roses, too cliche).

Doing stuff like that is a really special because you can turn cheap 15 dollar bouqets into several hundred dollars worth bouqets and arrangements.
