Society is rapidly plunged into chaos as avid fanboys turn rabid, and begin to turn on those who play for fun, with even worse consequences for those who don't play at all.
By 2013, the world has been ravaged by these fanboys, and only they and Bungie remain. Bungie forms a small rebellion, but to no avail. The world is overcome with prepubescent, rabid Halo obsessors, and hummanity slowly dies out. *nod*

The internet will become self-aware, and subsequently disgusted at mankind for the ungodly amount of porn they put on it. It will then bring electronic devices under its control, since we're so tethered to tech. and EVERYTHING is internet-accessible these days, and use its army of machines to destroy mankind.
