How would you define a 'satisfying' weapon?

Recently I got my hands on Fallout 3 for a few hours. I got acquainted with the so-called 'railway rifle'. My answer to the question as posted in the topic is thus.

A steam powered gun. It even whistles after you shoot it. Just try and beat the awesome.

Anything that falls under these four categories:

- Decent magazine size.
- Reliable.
- Accurate.
- High-powered.
- Has a sound that causes structural damage to my opponent's houses.

Hence, my favourite gun is the SVD.

Ammo supply: rare, but common enough so you can use it every now and then.
Power: should make enemies explode painting the walls/near bye pedestrians with blood.
Practicality: would be nice, but not necissary.
Accuracy: fair, but requiring skill to get a good hit.
Other: should look cool, like it was forged out of pure awsomeness.

Thinking about all the weapons I find satisfying, not all of them are powerful, not all of them are accurate, not all of them are a particular type of weapon, the only thing they all have in common is a good noise. And the weapons I've found least satisfying all made crappy noises.

So I'd say if it makes a loud, crisp, powerful sounding noise as it shoots bad guys, chances are I'll find it satisfying.

The dual handguns that Alucard uses in Hellsing.
God, those things are beasts.
Or if we're talking about in-game guns, probably the BBG from Area 51.
But for real life, what gun I would prefer on my person, would probably be either two S&W Magnum .50 caliber Model 500, or the M107 semi-automatic .50 caliber sniper rifle for both efficiency, power, and accuracy.

I personally liked the Gauss Pistol in Fallout 2. I think I loved it because of the woosh-thump it made when it fired, the joy of a deadly critical hit to the eyes, and the fact that it could take down most enemies in the game with a single hit if you had your stats right and aimed for the eyes. Hell, after I got it and the .233 pistol, I didn't need to use a single other gun for the rest of the game. The one downside was the lack of ammo, but you could get around that by looking around for Enclave patrols, one of the people in them almost always had a gauss pistol with full ammo.

The railroad gun in Fallout 3 was one of the most satisfying weapons I've found. I loved the effect and the sound of it, and I especially loved how it pinned body parts to the wall. After a particularly successful melee, I would have half a dozen severed heads spiked to the walls and ceiling all around me. How can that not make you smile?

Basically, if it makes a big awesome noise and has some effect other than making blood come out of the person you're pointing it at, I'm probably into it. I'm a great fan of overkill, and if my gun can kill someone, set them on fire, fling their limbs, boil their eyes and serve them to me with some fried onions and spanish rice, I'm going to marry it.

I've always been a sniper fan. One shot, one kill before you even notice me.

Ammo is rarely an issue.
Powerful.
Practical.
Accurate.

Pretty much perfect, except for the whole "Close-Quarters" stuff.

The way it kills things is what makes a cool weapon. To quote Fallout 3: "If it's bigger than a human and goes bang, I'm all over it."

One with easy ammo, dead-on accuracy and omgwtf-power that can plow through entire halls of enemies in single firing mode. (BFG anyone?)
if thats how its judged, Duke Nukem 3D's Shotgun, Devistator, Ripper, RPG and pretty much anyother weapon wins...
