So it seems my iPod has just died randomly after four good years of service. I tried turning it on 5 minutes ago, nothing. Plug it in to charge.....nothing. Try the reset....nothing. I guess it's time to think about getting a new music player, do any of you smart people on the escapist have any suggestions? I'm thinking of getting something that supports Rhapsody or something like that, but I'm unsure of any good ones and looking for advice. Please help.

iPod touch my friend has one and it seems to pretty much run on magic for what you can do with it.

As stated above, iPod touch. I absolutely love mine, I've had it for about 2 years now, got it pretty soon after the release and it's been reliable since then.

I Suppose It depends on how much music you have, If you want to use it for other media, Your own personal tastes etc. Ipod Touches only have 32Gb of space ( In the largest model ), so there is no point getting one if you have more then that.

One version of the Zune has 120GB of space.
Zune HD has radio

Since I like multimedia..I use my PSP with a couple of MStick Duo cards..1x4GB and 1x8GB.

Zune HD... It's going to be an iPod Touch rival... Give it a try, as I'm particular to the Zune brand myself.

How does the Zune download system work? I heard it was similar to Rhapsody from Penny Arcade (reliable source) but how is it? Or if you wanna get seedy, how's pirating on it?

I say the iPod touch, unless you have a lot of medi on your ipod.
I barely have any, but the iPod touch always seemed more like it sucked on battery life for my friends. Battery life is one of my biggest issues with getting a new iPod/mp3 player, many of them suck the juice like nothing else.

It lasted four years? Consider yourself lucky, man. Most people I know had theirs die out within a year or two.

I have the 120gb Zune and I love that thing, I have like three complete series and 2 movies and above 1,000 artists and still have like 100-80gbs left, also I watched three 30 minute episodes of a show and two movies and by battery didn't even go down half way, thats even with the back light on the whole time. Also it's not stingie with the music like Ipods are, you can take music off the player itself and put it on another computer, along with videos. When it comes to torrent or somthing like that, putting it on the Zune is like cake, the Zune player automatically uploads all the music it can find on your computer so not much drag and drop. All in all I would go with the Zune.

Zune HD also has access to the awesome Zune Pass. $15 Dollars a month for unlimited access ( To most of the selection... some is unavaiable but a tiny amount) and you get to keep ten songs.soooo 5 dollars a month for unlimited music. o_O. it connects to your gamer tag as well... and can look at messages and friend invites from xbl.

Actually they now go up to 64gb. I wouldn't really recommend a touch if you have boatloads of music. Stick to a classic as I've found those a lot more durable and faster to navigate if you have over 12Gb of music to deal with.

Zune HD will probably outshine ipod touch, though they would both be great to own so it is really down to preference. Zune HD does have the OLCD screen, so it will look pretty sharp if you watch movies, plus it hooks right into your tv, and plays HD radio.

That's another thing: Ipods use battery power whether they're being used or not. Charge an Ipod and a week or so later you'll have to charge it again, even if you never use it at all.
But that's only a problem for a certain type of users. I mean, I never go a week without having my ipod plugged in my computer anyways, changing the music that's on, putting new episodes of various shows on it, making playlists for running, etc.

I do agree with the critique of the need to use iTunes. It would only be a minor inconvenince though, if it wasn't that the program is pants on retarded, and starts really messing with your CPU and memory usage, when you have a large music library. Luckily, you can use winamp instead, but really, they should just be like normal mp3players, so you could drag and drop in explorer.

Time to recommend something completely different.
A Thomson Lyra.
I've had mine... what, 5 years atleast?
It may have slightly fallen apart, be nearly dead, but It STILL WORKS.
You just can't kill it. Unless of course you are trying to.
