I never play humans, lol. Far too boring. I always avoid playing any humans or elves or dwarves whenever possible.

A Bone Controling Minotaur sounds wikid
Yeah, think of like a shaman and thats how he uses them, and he has the 3 best moves ever, Snap Crackle and Pop, ive also used his powers to knot together to create a baseball bat from 3 different people that made the flesh blood and gore explode on impact. ...... works really well then if you want to break their will on an imtimidate check XD

The problem I find is that other races are usually gimped into certain classes, dwarves are the standard melee with an axe or beserker, elves the archer / stealther / mage. Whereas humans tend to get a more free choice of which path they take, therfor I stick with the home team.

Except for when I used to play Warhammer online, high elves get awesome class choices in that (Swordsmasters, fuck yeah).

I don't have a problem with humanoid characters, they're easier to relate to. I don't usually play as actual humans though.

In RPGs I am tired of seeing Humans as total asshats that have destroyed everything and they do everything wrong. trying to conquer some nation or something superfluous with no real intention other than to be dicks.

And I am utterly sick of elves. Period.

I wish there were games with the original elves, the Norse Alfars. They aren't androgynous, emo, pointy eared (well, sorta, their ears were often thought to have somewhat of a point), long haired, half-naked, tree huggers.
Elves in Norse were akin to: elves are born when the strongest and skilled men dies.
I don't know the whole story but the original Norse elves were more like the Qunari in Dragon Age. Or the Norn in Guild Wars are more akin to the 'Alves'.
Except they aren't elves in either games, and I am disappoint.

And Dwarves are just awesome.

I really think a game where you play as a monster, like dragon, imp, demon etc can be very interesting and very unique. Think of the story of this game: you can get choices like "how do I approach humans", or "can I slaughter all the town important people to make commoners feed me forever" and other bizarre scenarios like that. Not to mention being a monster means that combat has to be unique, your powers are a lot less balanced than usual. That can be a really good game.

I usually play as humans.

I can't play as dwarves because they look like Children

Elves because... they're fucking annoying

But I've played as an Argonian before.

I personally, almost always play as an elf in RPGs. I do agree that there should be more options available, but I probably won't use them myself. Unless theres something really compelling that is.

My current play through of Wizardry 8 is with a squad made up of furries. Now that's real Role Playing.

Someone should make an RPG where you can only play robot characters in a world infested with irrational humans who you have to exterminate for the common good. I would buy that, day one. There would be no cheesy romance plots, the robots would all speak in dry aphorisms and every time the humans started of on some long dialogue with thees and thous I could shock them with a cattle prod. This would be bliss. I might even buy it if it had some shitty real time combat system instead of a proper turn based system.

I mostly play as a human in RPGs, but occasionally I'll play a Dark Elf for something different. Although for me, Vampire Human > everything else. It's a shame most games don't allow for you to become a Vampire.

I guess I can simpathise with that matter but then again having a fixed race for your character means that they can use more complex themes for the story rather than it being (in a standard story anyway) an empty shell of a story line that is compatable with blank lines in the dialogue to have your character`s race inserted into.

Ive never actually played D&D just seems abit too slow/confising for me..
Still it really does appeal to me with the vast amount of customisation in a character (which im guessing is anything you damn well please?) i just love upgrading/evolving charaters in games, if i could do that with a custom caracter i must admit that sounds wikid.

Still i doubt i could get into anything not on pc/ps3

I can see why people would be fed up with playing Humans in games, afterall, to us it's boring. We are Human. I think it's only typical that we would immediately label that as "boring", hell, I'm guilty of it myself. Personally I think it's how RPGs present Humans that determine my interest in them.

For example, let's compare Dragon Age and Mass Effect. Humans are pretty typical in Dragon Age, but in Mass Effect they're one of the more aggressive, determined species because of the way Humans have evolved. I find that fascinating and, to me, it makes Humans a much more enjoyable species, so it varies from IP to IP for me.

As for Dwarves and Elves, I have no problems with them per se, although I am getting fed up with the typical "Humans, but with a twist" species. More originality please game designers! Take a page out of Mass Effect's book.
