I've been getting frustrated with recent shooters. Rather, I'm getting frustrated with the melee systems a lot of new games are implementing. A lot of them are just "press B to melee" and then your whip out your knife/fist in less than a second and instantly kill someone (looking at you, MW2). What frustrates me about this is how there is a complete lack of skill. Whatever happened to they days when your knife was its own weapon? It made it so much more enjoyably challenging. Not only do you have to be faster to pull it out, but you also need to be more dextrous with the controller/mouse to win the knife fight. Recently it has just been the first part: pulling it out faster. No longer do we see those fun knife only matches in Battlefield 2, or the satisfaction of humiliating someone with a strong stab to the back in Counter-Strike. Now its just you shoot a guy in the chest 5 and then he lunges at you from 10 feet away and fatally stabs you in the leg. Why did the knife suddenly become so dumbed down? Why is it that 10-year-olds run around faster than Usain Bolt stabbing people despite the bullet holes in their chest say they have 'skill'?
tl;dr bring back knifes as separate weapons, not a lunging insta-fuck
