there seems to be a need for clarification.

The fire thing wasnt a joke, seems like an effective idea to me.

Too bad none of you guys watch Mythbusters (don't blame you) going in water doesn't hide you scent. It makes it easier to smell because you're skin flakes will float on the water, and even if it was the stinkiest swamp in the world the dog would still be able to smell your scent along with it.

Cool down in the stream and put dirt and stuff on me to cover the scent, find an area dense enough to forbid vehicles and large enough to force the soldiers to split up an search, climb a tree that will conceal me from the thermal sensors if my body warms up, wait for a soldier to pass under the tree, drop on him, take his weapon and radio, call for support and evac.

You don't roll in the water to cover your scent. You roll in the water so the dirt you roll in will become mud

Clearly the vehicles will be of no use as we are in dense jungle. Stay away from tracks, be ready to fight dogs and persuing soldiers. Generally speaking there won't be much hunt for a single soldier.
Unless your squad destoyed their drug depot and your the only survivor
1) Why is it a company strength force with armoured vehicles if I just blew up a drug depot. Ever heard of collateral damage? Drugs are explosive. Also, contrary to popular belief, drug barons don't have entire regiments in their private army. You aren't going to be chased by a company. Much less the fact that if they're intelligent enough to have a drug depot and a company-sized force defending it, they'd know the impracticality of taking a single prisoner after everyone is dead. It would be a black op, and the existence of all solders would be disavowed.

2) That should have been mentioned at the beginning of the hypothetical. As it was not, it does not apply.

Good day, Sir.

The problem with fire is that dense, wet jungles don't burn too well unless you have a good deal of accelerant. Trying to start a fire would also give your position away very quickly, particularly if the enemy is using thermal imaging.

They were well funded rebels who happened to run a drug ring and outpost in a small town surrounded by jungle

no one said the vehicles were armored, they were light vehicles like pickup tricks, and a select few had thermal imaging

Then once again you need to SPECIFY these things. You never mentioned a small town, their level of funding, the grade of their gear, what vehicles they were, where their technology was placed or even which ply toilet paper their general preferred. Therefore your entire hypothetical has been contaminated and is therefore null and void.

Good day, Sir.

Thermal imaging? How about seeing and breathing the (apparently urine..) fire?

Roll in water, then use the mud nearby to mask my thermal signature, while heading away from the main enemy force. I'd head into the jungle, find a clearing and contact a rescue team. Then I'd go home and bang my hot wife, I WIN.
