It's not that hard actually. Charge them, scope in with your heavy pistol while they are staggered, put two in their head, and they're dead.
There's a second where you can roll to the side and blast them with your shotgun as well. And since I use the Disciple, they are then staggered again so I can finish them off easily. If my technique sucks, then I can always just use Shockwave too.

Speaking of the Disciple...Yay! I finally found another shotgun after maxing out the freaking Mantis and getting four other sniper rifles, including the Javelin! And I never use any of them!

I wouldn't know, I don't use shotguns on my vanguard, only heavy pistols.

(though the infiltrator on the team got in quite a few himself, the sneaky bastard). It's not something that I'll make a habit of, but it was made quite clear that the vanguard class is a broken, overpowered character.

So, Escapists, my question is this: Do you let the vanguard die? If not, what tactics do you adopt to stay competitive with one?
Wow your infiltrator musthave sucked. I just finished my last match; 75 headshots as an infiltrator the vanguard just couldn't keep up to me kill wise between the 2 other players (both soldiers).

Also while it may seem that the vanguard is overpowered at first try playing on silver or gold difficulties and you will find his dmg output DRAMATICALLY reduced. Without being able to perform an instant kill the vanguard loses a great deal of its potential and becomes more of a risk having than a benefit. The only vanguard I have seen perform reliably well on gold was one who was using a pistol to max his power recharge so the second he would nova he could charge again to get his shields back.

Also, watch a vanguard go up again a guardian from the front. soooooooooooo funny.
play a human vanguard on gold just fine, take 100% recharge charge, half blast nova, and heavy pistol (i'd like the paladin from SP, but have to settle for the phalanx)

Guardians are cake, too, charge em and while they're reeling you can fire off 2-3 headshots and eat them alive. On bronze if you bring a carnifex (puts you at 180 recharge, but fuck it, its BRONZE) you can 1 shot headshot the guardians after the charge, fucking hilarious.

yes captcha, i do need a bath towel after those antics :3

But yeah I feel more comfortable in gold as salarian engineer with energy drain / incinerate--I also put 3 pt into decoy just cuz that shit can buy you a second or two when you need it (i lose like 5% wep damage or some shit this way, onoez)

Oh, one more thing--whats a guaranteed way to interrupt a banshee / brute / atlas / phantom when they're doing an insta kill? I've seen shockwave do it a few times and nova do it a few other but i'd like something more reliable. Those grabs are just so...ugh :p generally will pistol them down and just charge / roll back immediately on the larger ones. Also missiles on gold are lolz

Leave your Vanguards for gold.... pleeeze.... I beg of you.

Alright, bring him/her for silver if you're confident but there ain't no chance in hell I'm saving you from your own stupidity.

As for snipers, a little quote from a professional: "Be polite. Be efficient. Have a plan to kill everyone you meet."
Er okay... maybe not the last bit. Stay effective and efficent and we'll all get along fine.
It's not that Vanguards are ill-equipped for Silver and Gold, but that Bronze is so easy it teaches them bad habits. You're better off (as a Vanguard) picking off the weak guys so they don't flank your teammates while they strip away the Atlas/Banshee's/Prime's defenses.

I'd say the only class that is really necessary for Silver and Gold is the engineer, especially the Salarian. Destracting enemies with Decoy is incredibly useful (I find that combat drones don't distract enemies well enough), plus they have both Incinerate and Energy Drain (meaning there isn't a defense they aren't equipped to handle). The decoy can give you time to hold off a huge charge just before extraction, or it can be use to draw enemies into a corridor where you and your teammates can really whale away at them. It can also be used to distract nearby enemies while you revive team members.

I still prefer to be a Vanguard, but I'll switch to Engineer every time if my team doesn't have one.

As much as I enjoy the Vanguard, I will say I do think that the Engineer is pretty important for it's debuffing role. However, I wouldn't leave out the Adept either. Crowd control is something that people tend to forget about in ME3. An enemy that isn't shooting you is damage you're not taking. Stuns, Knockdowns, Staggers, Lifts, all that stuff helps immensely in preventing damage.

I have nothing against Vanguards.

I just wish we could duct tape the characters' mouths shut. Their constant yelling gets real old, real fast.

I've just decided to HUH-AAAAH incorporate the vanguard yells into my everyday HUH-AAAAH speech, that way people will HUH-AAAAH steadily become HUH-AAAAH used to it.

Usually a vanguard player is the standard human and they'll spam charge and nova until everything around them is dead. The issue is they'll charge any enemy - so that sniper you've been slowly picking the shields at and are ready to start doing some serious damage? The team vanguard is more than happy to help you out with that. Finally kick the barriers off of that Banshee? Here comes the vanguard. They'll usually lead the team by around 20k points on a bronze challenge.
Well Im an Asari. Played all of 6 hrs multiplayer tops. And I just leveled from 5 to 15 in bronze with the other chars all 11-21's across the board. Never came in anything other than first for pts... and I am usually 3 or 4 as any other class I tried. And frankly, unless I suicide near the end of a match, I pretty much can't die in Bronze. Vanguards are godmode in bronze, esp after you get tier 6 on biotic charge. I can't even imagine expecting my group to support me when I charge 6 shitkickers, Punch the ground and charge back out. So ya, let the vanguard die... cause if he's dying in bronze, he deserves it.

That's not true, I came in second once, to a pistol-only level 21 Human charge/nova spammer.

Funny you should mention that, because I watched him get taken down by a grenade, then stood on top of him shooting the last few enemies while he bled to death. I made sure he knew I was doing it on purpose. I had all the time in the world to pick him up, but I just let the bastard bleed out to kind of show how much of prick he had been the whole match. He actually had Charged AWAY from me from me earlier in the match while I was bleeding out. You have no idea how pissed off I was.

You know what the best Vangaurd is? An Asari who just spams Stasis Bubble. Biotic Charge & Nova are lame and just makes it impossible for your teammates to help and work together. Bronze difficulty teaches Vanguards how to play their class wrong and rewards them for it. The same play style will not work in Silver.

Letting someone die is a context sensitive decision.

It's not worth reviving them if doing so will get you killed, or one or more of your other teammates killed.

Personally, when I play my Vanguard female, I go off on my own and pick off enemies. Or stand guard and make sure that no enemies sneak up behind my team-mates. I've actually risked my neck reviving my team-mates.

I usually stick to my guns though. Only because I'm in love with my Rifle. Pewpewpew...pew.

The pinnacle of crowd control is Quarian Infiltrator against geth. HACK ALL THE ENEMIES!

At least that's how I got through gold :p
