I heard a lot of terrible things about this game, and almost nothing good. And it's a Ubisoft PC port. They created this atmosphere of hate among PC gamers. I'm just not inclined to buy anything from them besides AC3. And then I'm done with that company. Until they decide to grow up. Look at Square Enix. Those guys have been treating PC gamers with so much love and respect in the past several years. Take a few hints from Square Enix and Valve, Ubisoft. Then we'll talk.

Yeah, I'm going to keep bitching and giving Ubi the finger.

No thanks. I only give my money to respectful companies.

As much as I dislike Ubisoft for calling me a pirate this game looks kinda awesome, I also don't like playing shooters with controllers so I see this as a good opportunity to give it a try. Also if I don't buy it they will call me a pirate... Well, I also play console games so they wont know what to call me.

A Ubisoft PC port? Sorry, fresh out of steam.
Yeap, after the bitching around From Dust I'm extremely wary of Ubisoft PC ports.

Well, Rayman Origins was also released later for the PC, no DRM at all (well, in addition to Steam), at a much lower price and it has been an absolute joy to play it.
Really? Huh, maybe they've learned something from From Dust. Still wary, but more optimistic.

Has anyone been able to confirm if this game comes with Ubisoft DRM or that stupid UPlay program? I keep hearing conflicting answers.

This game is terrible, they're only porting it now in the hopes that they'll be able to trick some PC gamers into buying it.

Ubisoft, PC
Two words that close my wallet.

GOG does GREAT, and has no DRM.
Maybe it's because Ubisoft are such DICKS that folks refuse to support them, maybe?

MY PRAYERS! THEY WORKED!

This makes me very happy. And people should stop complaining just because it's by Ubisoft. Judging happens after playing the game, guys, not before.

I'll still buy it.

But it makes you wonder, if there are two people at Ubisoft, who REALLY hate each other or someone there is just drunk when making annoucements.

Well that's just it, it doesn't make sense from a 'decent human being' point of view, nor does it make any sense from a business perspective. If piracy really were that high then the DRM is obviously not working, so you're throwing money at something that doesn't work while alienating your customers. Of course piracy isn't that high, but they still have proof that DRM is just a cash sink that does nothing for their bottom line.
I see where the confusion is coming from now. You're trying to apply some measure of rational thought to the behaviour and actions of a large multi-national business. Speaking as someone with a business degree, that'll always make your head hurt because they're anything but rational. :)

I understand that the issue probably revolves around the shareholders getting anxiety because they lack an understanding of the media
I've seen numerous companies and executives say that's basically why they do it. Investors don't understand the medium, but they know downloading the game for free means they don't get money. So despite DRM not working, executives will make a company put it in so it looks like they're doing something instead of nothing so they can protect their jobs. Many investors probably wouldn't understand that all it does is piss off paying customers and make them stop buying from you. It's one of those situations where doing nothing would literally be the better option, but if they do nothing they look inept and lose their job. Seriously, businesses are fucked up.

but that just makes it seem like Ubisoft is putting their fingers in their ears and hollering "I can't hear you" as loud as they can.
Congratulations, you now understand the key to running a successful mega-company. You must have a business degree too. :D
Actually Economics but yeah I see where you're coming from. It's that small part of my brain that is still optimistic that keeps telling me people can't be that stupid, that the monkeys in charge of the businesses in this media are doing their part to keep their investors involved and aware of the media's nature. I should probably see about having that part of my brain removed.

well, in some kind of messed up way, you'd pretty much prove them right if you didn't buy it
EXACTLY!

You're either paying for it to prove them wrong, or pirating to prove them right. Assuming you're going to get the game that is. Either way, you lose.

The only good game Ubisoft has released this entire generation IMO, was Rayman Origins and it was a step in the right direction, because it was an AMAZING port without any single trace of DRM... why the huge step backwards and stick with your draconian DRM schemes and then pull off ridiculous percentages out of your ass and blaming piracy if the game doesn't sell well?.

I just don't get it.

I'm not just a bitchin' PC Gamer, I'm a totally bitchin' PC Gamer. However with the clusterfuck that is Uplay, and Ubisoft either destroying the IPs I care about or just making games I can easily do withoutm, I feel no need to buy any Ubisoft game ever. I actually rate EA over Ubisoft because at least their digital distribution service works, doesn't open my PC up to hackers, and EA has games I actually like.

Since it was a game made by Ubisoft and published by Ubisoft, I'd have no problem with a boycott of this game. However, I kind of want to see it not do terrible just so he can have his bitching thrown back into his face.

Here's a guy who gets it! How would you like to have a job at Ubisoft?

OT: This game released to... absolutely no critical response. Nobody talked about it, it came out completely under the radar, so I'm going to assume it wasn't that good? And if it has Ubisoft DRM, then...

I wasn't ever particularly interested in it, though, what got my attention more was how Ubisoft threw a temper tantrum about not porting it to the PC while it was still in development, because it would just get pirated by everybody.

Except that we're not judging the game, we're judging the company. And a good game does not magically whisk away all wrongdoing.

You're free to play and enjoy the game, and I hope you do enjoy it, but I'll not be buying it because I do not see the point in supporting a company that doesn't want my business.

Oh god Ubisoft you just make my day every time :D
Someone at your office should just be collecting quotes and use them for stand up comedy, it would just be unbeatable, maybe even make up for the 95% of pirates.

But all the laughs aside this game is really poor, development was on and off 5 or so times and it never got done properly, if it comes with mod support then it could turn out as one of the very best things on PC, but this is Ubisoft after all...
